According to an Apple press release, and stories on every Mac page on the Internet, CEO Gil Amelio has left Apple at the request of the board of directors. Ellen Hancock, Gil's hand picked chief of technology, left with him. Jobs is still there, but reportedly has no interest in running Apple. Rumor has it the next CEO will come from outside the company, and be more experienced in the personal computer business.
In a few days Apple is expected to report a $70 million-plus loss for the quarter. The projected loss is thought to be the impetus for the turnover at the top.
