<<<So.. Have y'all heard about the new PowerMacs? I like the sound of the 7600/120. That's a 120 MHz PowerPC 604. Very zippy. Also, they've now got 150 MHz PowerMac 8500 & 9500 models, plus some new 7200s, and some new 5x00 desktops.

Also, the PowerPC 620 is now in sampling. I just can't wait for Apple to release a desktop based on it. :)>>>

These should be pretty nice systems. The speedier 7200/120 should appeal to a larger audience (those slower speeds just aren't attractive anymore). The 7600 system is really great, and the price is nice (for an Apple Machine). Still...even thought these prices are in line with the 7500 that preceded the 7600, it's almost scary to think about the PC clones out there now. I was at a friend's house earlier today, and the PC clone makers (Gateway, Acer, etc.) are selling 166Mhz Pentium machines for $2700...and this includes 17" trinitron .26dp monitor, 6x CD-Rom, 16M, 1.2G HD, sub-woofer speaker system (altec lansing...nice ones), 28.8 modem, MS Office, etc. For this kinda system, this price is almost unreal. I don't think it's even remotely POSSIBLE to sell a similar system for that price. Companies like PowerComputing (and hopefully some mainstream PC clone makers like Gateway, Acer, etc.) need to move into the low-end systems, since they're the only ones likely to be able to compete with that kind of price.

Later,
Jason
