Guys,
I'm on the lookout for a good, fast, QUIET hard drive in the 1 Gig range. Anybody have any suggestions? Is there anywhere in particular you would advise NOT to use? I know people recommend APS... are their prices reasonable? Is their service really worth the extre money?

Which drives are known for their quiet operation? (There should be a volume column in most of the tables that have facts like access speed, kb/s transfer speed, etc - decibels!). I'm looking in the $200-300 price range, hopefully closer to the $200 end. The reason I'm getting a new drive is to give my wife the old one to archive scanned documents in image format AND because this current hard drive is so loud it gives me a headache. My computer is almost completely silent without this HD, but with this quantum 540 (older lightning model), it makes it almost difficult to hear my stereo. It has a high-pitched whine that really gives me a bad headache. It's a good drive for an external enclosure (so you can turn it off when not in use!).

Thanks,
Wintermute
