I was privilaged enough to be working at Nettwerk <http://www.nettwerk.com> for a while around the time that Sarah's Freedom Sessions came out. They've always been on the forefront of technology- many of their older Skinny Puppy or Moev releases have their old FidoNet (remember that?) address listed, and they were one of the first record companies to play around with "Enhanced CD's". They were making them even before people could figure out what to call the things! Of course, all the development work was done on Macs, and their office is crammed full of Macs of all kinds. Very cool people.
I teach here and take care of the computers when they get sick and by boss wanted me to pass this on so we can get some qualified applicants. We teach English as a Second Language Adult Education classes on 34 - 8600/200's to high school aged and above students who are learning English. 95% of our classes are taught completely in English, so don't feel that you are not qualified if you don't know another language. The positions are part-time for a maximum of 12 hours a week with classes during the day or evening and some weekend classes. No teaching credentials or background is required, and you don't need to be an "expert" at a particular program to teach it, but rather have a good working knowledge of it. Bachelors or better degree (in any field) is required and the pay is not bad for the hours.
We are expanding our classes to cover PC software as well in a new (yet to be bought) PC lab as well and need instructors to cover the PC based classes too. I would like to have the PC positions filled by people who love the Mac, but can teach and maybe have some experience on maintaining that other platform too. I can answer some questions via e-mail <rbarron@exo.com> but for the best info contact Rose Gee at the number below. Here's the official announcement:
We are seeking to develop and maintain a qualified and diverse pool of part-time faculty for substitute teaching and for any future vacancies that might occur in the area of IBM compatible and/or Macintosh computer instruction. Instruction may include:
Computer literacy, Mac Basic operations, ClarisWorks, MS Word, MS Excel, Claris FileMaker Pro, Graphics Programs (SuperPaint, Illustrator, Freehand, Premier, Photoshop, PageMaker, Quark XPress), PowerPoint, Multimedia, and Internet.
To be considered in the selection process please submit a completed Rancho Santiago Community College District application and a resume to:
Dr. Jan Parks Dean of Instruction and Student Services Centennial Education Center 2900 W. Edinger Santa Ana, Ca 92704
District Applications may be obtained from the Centennial Education Center from Sherry Laufenburger (714) 564-5026.
Questions regarding requirements for the positions, please call Rose Gee (714) 564-5057, M-Th 8-9am.

Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 14:08:53 -0000 From: EvangeList <evangelist@apple.com> Subject: $$ - Quadrivio General Edit
This special offer is from:
Michael Budiansky <sales@quadrivio.com>
General Edit is a tool for programmers and other software professionals who need to work with data in complex binary formats. It has a built-in compiler that works interactively as you type in your description of a file or data format. It parses the data on-the-fly and displays it so you can clearly and easily view and edit the information. No more deciphering hex listings! Works on RAM or disk files. Files can be larger than RAM. Saves and re-uses file format templates.
The next update is coming soon. Meanwhile we've got some version 1.0 boxes. These are "show special" boxes from Macworld Expo that contain a nice scientific/hex calculator (the Sharp EL-520L). What should we do? We take $50 dollars off the price and give EvangeList readers the chance to get a great tool at a special price, with a nice freebie thrown in, too. And when the update is available, it's a free download.
Offer good while supplies last. For details, visit the special EvangeList offer page at

Howard Harawitz of Brooklyn North software created HTMLassistant, a handy little Windoze text-based web editing program which I use regularly in my employer's Mac-less environment. The company's software is strictly Windoze, but its most recent newsletter reports Harawitz recently bought a Mac for its MIDI capabilities:
"HOWARD HARAWITZ: Yeah, I actually did. I'm generally known as a flag-waver for Windows and Microsoft products. But, as you may know, I'm interested in electronic musicthat is, computer musicand after struggling for about six months trying to get my PC working reliably for recording digital audio, I finally gave up on it and bought a Macintosh. I turned the Mac on and it worked the first time."

Something else you might not know: at the Mac show in Toronto last month, they had an Apple guy doing a QuickTime 3 demo. What was he demoing? Nothing other than a full-screen, no-frames-dropped, crytsal-clear sounding Sarah [McLachlan] video!
Somebody has good taste in music. :-)
He even mentioned Apple getting copyright permission to show the video. What would be really cool is if they shipped that with the QuickTime 3.0 CD...
__________________________ Digital Guy Sez:
Distribution is very different from a demo...though I agree it would be very cool. 3.0 has been fun to play with, especially when dealing with "other" video formats. :)
