Hi fellow 'listas,

My mother-in-law is having trouble finding non-Wintel software for her
work... can anyone help with leads on MacOS software for her? She'll be
buying a new laptop computer in the next couple of months, and has
actually started mumbling about having to switch to the dark side to run
the software she needs... help! Feel free to e-mail her directly, her
address is at the bottom of her note. Thank you all in advance!

My name is Marilyn Tindel and I am a Speech Pathologist working with
elementary and high school students. I am looking for a report writing
software that is designed for schools (parent friendly) to use on a Mac.
I am also looking for scoring porgram for the Clinical Evaluation of
Language Fundamentals (Mac). Any thing else useful for evaluation in
Speech Pathology would be of interest. I'm looking for specifically Mac
programs and am not particularly interested in using Virtual PC etc.

MacHome's MacTalk Radio Show is looking for some friends! :-)

Actually, what we are looking for is other shows similar in format to
ours. We want to promote them on our web site.

If you know of any radio or TV shows in your area that talk about Macs on
a regular basis, drop us an email at <mailto:mactalk@machome.com>. Even
if they don't have a web page, let us know the city where it plays, the
station ID and any other info about the show that you can come up with
and we'll include it on our web pages so folks can find more great TV,

This tidbit is from:

Suman Chakrabarti <mailto:scstr@alumni.caltech.edu>

You don't have to be a multimedia demigod to use QuickTime 3.0. Apple
technology is so easy and transparent that I became productive with it
within hours of downloading it and paying $29.95 online for the upgrade
to QuickTime Pro 3.0.

I will finish a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Penn State
University next week. As such, I'm finishing up my doctoral thesis,
written in Nisus Writer 5.1.2.

I have a lot of PICT and EPS images imported into my thesis document.
This makes the document size very large. It would be useful if I could
reduce the document size.

Enter QuickTime Pro 3.0. After registering it, I realized that the new
MoviePlayer application could import PICT files and then save them as
QuickTime movies that were 80% smaller!

I intend to replace all my embedded PICT images with these QuickTime
movies to reduce my thesis file size by megabytes. To any PC users out
there: remember that QuickTime 3.0 is cross-platform! I would think that
Windows users could do the same thing.

You've got to salute a company that makes the most advanced multimedia
technology so accessible. Keep up the good work, Apple.

Subject: PR - CronoTask 1.06 for Macintosh Servers

This announcement is from:

Tension Software, <mc5230@mclink.it>

CronotTask is the true Cron utility for Macintosh. It provides via an
intuitive and easy to use interface the possibility to open as much 'task
lists' as the user likes. Any task list, which is a CronoTask document,
can contain an unlimited number of tasks (documents, apps, scripts) to be
launched at the specified time, using a daily, weekly, monthly and even
yearly plan. All the setting can be customized using controls inside
configuration panels, no code to remember, no string to digit. It's for
Macintosh, right? Please note that it's not a Unix port, we write
CronoTask from Scratch on Macintosh for Macintosh !

CronoTask uses a full Macintosh interface, using the new amazing features
of System 8 such as clock controls, chasing arrows, placards and window
headers in their native system 8 implementation. Best of all Cronotask,
using the Appearance control panel by Apple, can now perfectly work under
system 7, too!

If you run a Macintosh server we think CronoTask _is_ for you.

You can download the FULL working version of Cronotask from the TENSION
SOFTWARE web site at:

<http://www44.pair.com/tnet/tensionSW/>

Feel free to download and use CronoTask, available both for 68k and
native for PPC. Only if it fits your needs and you like continuing to use
it you are requested to pay US$ 29.00 for the user license.

We put a lot of work in this program for Mac, and we think, if you are a
Mac administrator, you will find it useful to improve your work.

WEB BROADCASTING SHIPS 100% JAVA-FREE WEB FM 4.0 FOR FILEMAKER PRO

MAJOR NEW VERSION ADDS SUPPORT FOR EASY-TO-USE, INTERNET STANDARD
TEMPLATE FILES WITH NO NEED TO LEARN YET ANOTHER MARKUP LANGUAGE

"JUST SAY NO" TO CONFUSING, INCOMPATIBLE, PROPRIETARY MARKUP [/TAGS]

Internet World, Los Angeles CA -- March 12, 1998 -- Web Broadcasting
Corporation today announces the release of WEB FM 4.0. WEB FM 4.0 is a
plug-in to popular Mac OS web servers such as WebSTAR, Quid Pro Quo,
WebTEN, and AppleShare IP that enables FileMaker Pro developers to
quickly and easily build wicked fast, truly dynamic and interactive
online database applications for the World Wide Web or corporate Intranet.

WEB FM's extensive feature list mirrors that of FileMaker Pro 4.0 for
Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1 and Mac OS from FileMaker Inc. It
fully supports relational and portal fields; browsing, sorting, creating
and editing database records; even running ScriptMakerTM scripts via a
web browser interface.

WEB FM is optimized for top performance and is compatible with either
FileMaker Pro 3.0 or 4.0 on the PowerPCTM or 68K Mac OSTM platforms. With
accelerated database performance measured in fractions of a second, WEB
FM is capable of handling the higher traffic web sites requiring tens of
thousands of database transactions per day.

NEW TEMPLATE FILE SUPPORT

WEB FM 4.0 introduces support for easy-to-use Template files. Template
files are Internet standard HTML documents void of confusing,
incompatible, and proprietary markup [/tags]. For this reason a webmaster
need not learn yet another markup language, and Template documents are
fully compatible with all existing web page editors and client browsers.

A new highly intelligent parsing algorithm in WEB FM automatically
selects appropriate pop-up/pull-down menu items and automatically checks
appropriate radio button or checkbox fields in a Template document using
database record information. A single context-sensitive [field name]
token may be used throughout a Template document to dynamically insert
cell data where desired, auto-populate pop-up/pull-down menus, and
auto-replicate radio button and checkbox fields from database value
lists, all with no tags required!

NEW PLUG-IN PROCESSORS

WEB FM 4.0 introduces a new plug-in architecture for database-level
add-on Filter and Server-Side Include Processors such as Maxum
Development's NetCloak 2.5. Processors are separate web server plug-ins
supporting the PIXO ("Plug-In Cross-Over") API standard for web server
plug-ins to communicate and cooperate.

NEW RECORD-LEVEL SECURITY

WEB FM 4.0 significantly enhances features for record-level security. A
fully revised FindUser command now supports most Find command features,
but with record-level user authentication requirements. This means users
can flexibly Find and modify their own, and only their own, records in
databases where the permission to Browse records is disabled. Moreover, a
client Cookie value may now also be used in place or absence of a valid
password when finding or updating database records.

NEW BUNDLED SOLUTIONS

WEB FM 4.0 includes GOT COOKIES?, a new web server tool for easy,
feature-rich "cookie" management. Cookies are useful for state management
and electronic commerce applications when adding, updating, or searching
for database records.

WEB FM 4.0 includes FM@iler, a ready-to-use program for email archival
via Emailer 2.0 to a new searchable web database.

WHAT'S NEW?

http://macweb.com/webfm/docs/intro.html#new

ORDERING & DOWNLOAD INFORMATION

WEB FM 4.0 is available direct from Web Broadcasting or through select
reseller channels at a retail price of $395. Upgrade orders placed by
April 30th, 1998, are $195 with free shipping. To order WEB FM 4.0 online
or download a full 7 day demo version visit:
