Subject: PR - XPublish - Efficient Website Publishing with XML

Keyword: Market by market, Internet

This announcement is from:

Terje <Terje@in-progress.com>

XPublish is the first website publishing system on Mac that is based on
the XML markup standard. Using XPublish, web publishers can benefit from
the efficiency and flexibility of extensible markup for developing and
maintaining websites to deploy on any platform.

XPublish makes it easy to author with XML by providing dialogs on the Mac
to facilitate markup, liberating the author from detailed knowledge of
the XML specification. It also includes a Cascading Style Sheets editor
to design the presentation of the website. A complete version of XPublish
including a tutorial for XML publishing can be downloaded from:

<http://interaction.in-progress.com/xpublish>

XPublish generates standard HTML pages from XML documents at publishing
time. With XPublish, web developers have the advantage of one-source
publishing without the overhead, expense and complexity of full SGML or
the limitations of presentation-oriented document formats.

Extensible Markup Language (XML) is an electronic document format created
and developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and is supported by
major vendors included Netscape and Microsoft. XML allows web authors to
use their own custom tags and improve content management by eliminating
redundant information. More information about XML is found at:

<http://www.w3.org/XML>

Subject: $$ - PowerEditor Pro 1.2

This special offer is from:

Jon T. Howard <pepsales@librosystems.com>

LibroSystems Releases PowerEditor Pro v. 1.2; offers 25% Discount to
EvangeList Subscribers.

Software publisher LibroSystems Inc. is now shipping PowerEditor Pro v.
1.2, which offers improved formatting and install features, more powerful
batch-processing tools, and an enhanced tagging architecture. PEP is the
high-end publishing add-in for Microsoft Word for Windows and for Mac OS
platforms, designed for use by publishers, editors, and authors. With the
addition of its new Word 97 (PC) and forthcoming Word 98 (Mac) versions
to the lineup, the LibroSystems suite of cross-platform software is
constantly adapting to our customers' needs. (PowerEditor Pro for Word 98
for Power Macintosh is scheduled to ship later this Spring, and will be
available as a free upgrade to all who purchase PowerEditor Pro 1.2 for
Word 6.0 for MacOS.)

In appreciation to EvangeListas, whose response to the initial release of
PEP was overwhelmingly positive (see EvangeList Digest V1 #1008),
LibroSystems is offering an exclusive 25 percent discount from now until
July 30, 1998, to EvangeList subscribers. Simply mention this EvangeList
notice and LibroSystems will take 25 percent off the purchase price of
either the commercial publisher or freelancer editions of PowerEditor Pro
as well as PowerEditor Parser 1.2.

PowerEditor Pro brings industrial-strength editorial tools to Microsoft
Word, automating routine editorial tasks while preparing files behind the
scenes for typesetting in QuarkXPress and Adobe PageMaker. PowerEditor
Pro is designed for desktop editing of complex manuscripts and is geared
for large and small commercial publishers, including scholarly and trade
publishers. It shaves time off freelancer invoices, boosts publishers'
bottom lines, enhances flexibility, and makes for higher quality books.

Version 1.2 includes sophisticated yet easy-to-learn features for the
batch processing of groups of files and entire manuscripts (including
character/word counts, search/replace, tagged element extraction, robust
initial cleanup, and batch pagination). The PowerScrub editorial cleanup
features sophisticated usage routines. The myriad spellout and formatting
commands, notes tools, markup (tagging) library, editorial style sheet
generators, and automated author and editorial queries bring speed and
power to the task of copyediting manuscripts.

At the back end of projects, the PowerEditor Parser automatically
generates properly tagged (with all appropriate style sheet names already
generated) text files for QuarkXPress and Adobe PageMaker versions for
Windows and Macintosh platforms.

Librosystems maintains its website at
<http://www.librosystems.com/powereditor>

PowerEditor Pro 1.2 lists for $799 (or just $599 for EvangeListas!) A
discounted freelance editor edition is also available; PowerEditor Parser
1.2 lists for $3,999 (or just $2,999 for EvangeListas!).

They are available direct from the publisher. Call Jon Howard at

Subject: PR - Stairways releases Assimilator 2.0

Keyword: Market by market, Education, Science

This announcement is from:

Peter N Lewis, <peter@stairways.com.au>

Stairways Software, Pty Ltd, today announced the release of version 2.0
of Assimilator, an elegant and powerful laboratory administration tool.

What is Assimilator?

Assimilator is the product of years of managing student laboratories. It
is designed for situations where you wish to make a large number of
Macintoshes look virtually identical. Assimilator mirrors an AppleShare
server folder on to the client machines to make them all look almost
identical.

Since you generally do not want the machines to be exactly identical,
Assimilator provides a mechanism for building a database of your
machines, allowing the owner name, machine name, harddisk name and most
importantly the IP number of the client machine to be configured
automatically. It also has a method for customizing machines on an
individual or group basis.

Although Assimilator is designed for student lab situations, it has also
proven useful in other circumstances, such as for setting up newly
purchased Mac OS computers or in testing or demo labs.

Assimilator 2.0 is a major upgrade which incorporates feedback and
feature requests from lab administrators on the MacLabManager mailing
list.

Assimilator is US$10 shareware. Version 2.0 is a free upgrade to users
who registered after 1 Jan 1998. Users who registered prior to 1998 can
upgrade for US$5 per machine. Site and organisation-wide licenses are
also available for US$500 and US$2000 respectively.

For more information, see our web site at <http://www.stairways.com/>.

Peter is probably best known for Anarchie, but he also co-wrote the
Internet Config system with Quinn "The Eskimo", he was a programmer on
Metrowerks' Java release and he also authored the most widely used FTP
server for the Macintosh, NetPresenz. Peter is a prolific author of
high-quality Macintosh software.

Stairways Shareware distributes software using the shareware principles:

Subject: Followup - AtAT "Beat the Analysts" Results

This follow-up message is from:

Jack Miller, <jackm@infoXczar.com>

_As_the_Apple_Turns_ would like to thank everyone who participated in our
quarterly "Beat the Analysts" contest! Much to our surprise and delight,
TWELVE entrants (six of whom entered the EvangeList password) correctly
predicted Apple's Q2 profit of $55 million. Those eagle-eyed
Apple-watchers are:

Travis Sherer
Kristy Fairchok
Jon Bodner
Joe Shear
Mark Tyrrell
Colin Chung
Gustavo Delfino
Mike Esparza
Merry Carter
Judy Habel
John Campbell
Steve Palmieri

Due to the multiple winners, we held a random drawing: the recipient of
the shrink-wrapped copy of System 6.0.7 from our Baffling Vault of
Antiquity is Travis Sherer. As he hadn't entered the EvangeList password,
the EvangeList prize (a copy of the game "Angel Devoid: Face of the
Enemy") goes to Kristy Fairchok, via another random drawing. Everyone
else gets a free registration of Window Monkey, the excellent shareware
utility by Tiger Technologies, to whom we are deeply indebted for
graciously donating these prizes at the last minute so no one would feel
left out. (If you don't use Window Monkey, you're missing out on a great
window management and user interface utility. Check it out at
<http://www.tigertech.com/monkey.html>.>

Wanna hear something neat? Industry analysts predicted an Apple profit of
$21 million, off by about $34 million. The average of all "Beat the
Analysts" entries was a profit of $85 million-- off by only $30 million!
As a whole, we _did_ beat the analysts! (Not even counting bonus points
for erring on the side of Apple... ;-)

But here's the _really_ neat bit-- once we threw out the single
outrageous/joke prediction of a $35 _billion_ profit, the average was
$56,182,951.40. That's only about a million dollars off of the actual
numbers! Nice going, folks! (The full results are at:

Thanx a ton to everyone who participated. We'll be doing this again next
quarter, and every quarter afterwards. Until then, we're signing off with
a blatant plug to tune into AtAT for your daily dose of the Apple soap
opera at <http://www.infoXczar.com/atat/>. Keep fighting the good fight!
