Subject: Tidbit - MacNN & Macinsoft Team Up

This tidbit is from:

MacNN/Macinsoft, <misha@macnn.com>

The Macintosh News Network (www.macnn.com), the premier source for
Macintosh news, has teamed up with Macinsoft (www.macinsoft.lumiere.net),
one of the most popular reviews sites on the net, to produce "The Review"
(www.macnn.com/thereview/), a component of MacNN devoted to reviews of
the latest Macintosh products and interesting columns and articles.

This represents a huge jump for the staff of The Review and we'd like to
give Evangelist readers the opportunity to become a part of it. If you
would like to join the staff of this rapidly growing site, be it as a
reviewer, columnist, graphics artist, or web weaver (and would like to
have your work displayed to tens of thousands of Mac readers), please
contact me.

Best regards,
Misha Sakellaropoulo

Subject: Tidbit - Xerox Supports Mac & Power PC

This tidbit is from:

Michael's 2300, <michaeloquin@earthlink.net>

As I am investigating new copiers for my wife's law office, I got a call
from a Xerox rep. I asked him about Xerox ads showing computers networked
to a copier. (Just think about not having to print, go to the printer, go
to the copier, copy, etc). I was sure there was no Mac support for this,
but I asked anyway. Guess what? This product does supprt Macs (Sys 7.X &
8.X, mixed networks, etc. It realy sounds slick. If anyone needs a new
copying system, check it out. Also, a really neat feature is an optional
scanner on the copier hat will send the scanned result back to a
designated computer:

<http://www.xerox.com/>

In addition, the basis for this magic is a PPC 603e processor in the
system.

The price is more than a pure copier, but still reasonable considering
the immense time saving involved. As I write this, My wife printed a long
document & I had to go to the copier, wait for it to warm up, and make
the copy. The copier will also sort, collate, etc, so that when you print
5 copies you won' have to collate by hand. Like I said, slick.

If we actually get one, I'll post results to the list.

This special offer is from:

sansouci, <sansouci@pbmo.net>

Due to my health, I was recently forced to start working from home. I
knew nothing about the Internet and less about running my own business.
Fortunately, I owned a Mac and found out about the EvangeList Digest

EvangeList and all its contributors. I would like to say thank you by
offering all readers of this digest a 50% discount on our proofreading
and editing services through May 20, 1998. Our regular rates are
$20/hour, but you would only pay $10/hour. After that, special rates will
still be available to all EvangeListas maintaining regular accounts with
us. If interested, please e-mail us at <sansouci@pbmo.net> and please
remember to mention seeing this post on the EvangeList. You may also

Three words... The Talking Moose

I have yet to see any incarnations that capture the same humor and bad
taste as the old moose who sadly died on my plus when system 7 came
along... I lament. And who can forget "mac the bomb", of moose and your
carnival, we miss ye.

Subject: Tidbit - EQ Magazine Talks About G3 Envy

Keyword: Advocacy, Macintosh in Action

This tidbit is from:

Michael Spence, <mspence@inter-linc.net>

From the April '98 issue of EQ magazine:

Craig Anderton's article on whats in and whats out in the world of
project recording studios.

"Fade In: Mac G3 Envy

"Fade Out: Talk about Apple disappearing tomorrow.

"Mac boosters say the Mac is back, and regardless of whether or not
that's premature, the number of Macs on the show floor seemed to hold
steady or even increase compared to last year. Fueling the fire: the
Apple G3, a computer so fast it actually goes backward in time if your
not careful. Well, not really, but there's no doubt it's a speedy little
sucker. Meanwhile, although Windows machines continue to evolve, its
seems the world has figured out that the Mac occupies a unique spot in
the world of computing, and won't go away as long as it fulfills needs
that other platforms do not."

Seeing as how well the Evangelist group did with the RC5 cracking effort,
I thought I'd point out a site that would excite many science fans.

Check out: <http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/>

They are planning on using the internets vast resources to help them
process data to obtain info on whether there is intelligent life on other
planet.

Digital Guy Sez:

As distributed computing efforts go, I have to admit that this one is
intriguing in a way cracking encryption isn't. I mean, the RC5 cracking
efforts (and others like) are important ways to illustrate the weakness
of current policies on electronic commerce. Yet imagine for a moment
being the owner of the computer that stumbles on intelligent life
elsewhere in the universe.

Whoa. Pretty intense idea -- Desktop First Contact!

Subject: Tidbit - MacDay 98 - Italian Mac Users Convention

This tidbit is from:

Federico Giacanelli, <tar1562@iperbole.bologna.it>

I'm writing on behalf of Stefano Stefani <steve@sincretech.it> to
announce the 5th italian Mac user convention, named "MacDay 98".

Many italian Mac users are used to write every day on italian Macintosh
forums (Internet mailing lists and BBSes Conferences): the "MacDay"
convention was first conceived as a informal meeting to give them a
chance to see each other in real life while eating a good pizza. Since
last year the convention had grown up covering a full day with about a
hundred of people participating; after a great pizza lunch, every kind of
Mac user (beginner, expert, professional, magazine editor, Mac
enthusiast, home user, educational user, etc.) had his/her chance to meet
each other, offer or ask for a job, to have fun, try newly released
Macintoshes, etc. etc. Last but not least, everyone received some gifts
from Apple Italia (T-shirts and pens).

This year, "MacDay" will be even more interesting since it has been
officially announced the presence of Mr. Enzo Biagini, Country Manager of
Apple Italia and of other people from Apple Italia staff.

MacDay 98 will be held on April, 26, 1998 in Modena, Italy. To
participate, please mail to: Stefano STEFANI <steve@sincretech.it> or
Roberto FERRARA <ferrara@cbn.iperv.it>.

Every other information on MacDay 98 can be found at:

<http://www.sincretech.it/MOL/macday.html> (italian language only)

Thank you very much,
Fed

Subject: Tidbit - Apple Presence at Microage Solutions 98

This tidbit is from:

Kenneth J. Bousquet, <lange@inetworld.net>

I was very concerned and critical of Apple when they elected not to show
up in San Diego for The Computer Expo , and again when they passed up
Comdex. I have to say as an attendee at Microage Solutions 98 in Phoenix
last week, they came thru with flying colors. One could not enter the
exhibition space without walking around or thru the Apple Booth. They had
people from Apple who knew their stuff and brought the right stuff with
them. They had fast and interesting hardware from the 20th Anniversary
Mac to a tower with a DEV (Development Tag). They brought partners from
Asante, Connectix, Go Live (Cyberstudio), Radius (showing Colorsync 3.0)
and their own Quicktime 3.0 showing all the features.

As an additional touch someone arranged for Freestanding Black Plastic
signs everywhere in the Exhibit space with a full color Apple Logo
followed in 60 point white Type.

Think Different

Think Apple

These signs were at the IBM Booth, the Sun Booth, the Compact Booth ;
half the booths seemed to have these signs which were placed to be
obvious but so that they did not interfere with the operation of the
booth. The booth operators acted as if Microage had placed the signs. I
don't recall seeing any removed.

My vote is kudos for Apple on the one. And complements to all who pulled
this one off.
