My local school system still schedules its high school classes manually. This is a huge burden for the guidance counselors and students, since it's difficult to arrange everyone's schedules under local and state constraints about which courses are required, which are seniors-only, etc.
I'm looking for a course scheduling package that will allow the schools to feed in a list of courses, students, and rules for courses (i.e. "all graduating seniors must first take PE 105, and they get priority for that class over underclassmen") and get out a list of student class schedules. I know these packages exist but would much prefer one that runs on Macintosh.
Followups to me directly; I'll summarize back to the list.
CineSlider is an easy-to-use projector for movies and Pict images. It allows you to personalize the projection environment, and it's fast and easy to use. You can choose between different backgrounds, use a sound track for the projection, and display the names of the images and movies you project. CineSlider makes it easy to arrange your presentation in advance, for either manual or automatic projection. CineSlider lets you create standalone projections that other users can operate simply by double-clicking them.
CineSlider requires Mac OS version 7.1 or higher and QuickTime.
CineSlider can be freely distributed, either online or on CD-ROM without restrictions, provided that the original package is included.

AcuTab is delighted to announce that Transkriber v 1.2 is now available. Even more, we are happy to note that a fully-functioning, truly-Maclike version is shipping in addition to a Windoze version.
This simple little app from Reed Kotler Systems is designed to help musicians and music students slow down prerecorded music without changing the pitch. Many elaborate sound editing applications exist (such as MacroMedia's fabulous SoundEdit 16) but Transkriber is a simple, small (963K) and inexpensive program that does one job extremely well - for only $49.95.
The installer includes both Power Mac and 68K versions.

This tidbit is from:
Daria Aikens, <daria@gdn.net>
We're Mac users. We're evangelists. Sometimes, however, a thoughtful email or a simple phone call isn't enough. Sometimes, a letter, paper and all, is required. In other words, sometimes it comes right down to the letter.
Apple Wizards <http://applewizards.net> would like to introduce an important new website called Down to the Letter <http://applewizards.net/dttl/>. Down to the Letter aims to aid others in the evangelism of Apple Computer, Inc., the Mac OS, and the perpetuation of good computing in general. We strive to provide individuals with the tools they need to take appropriate action and inform individuals, organizations, and corporations of the vagaries of the Wintel world and the benefits of the Apple world. We realized that the best way to protest against injustice is compose a well-thought out, old fashioned, snail-mail letter! At the Down to the Letter website, you will find a collection of ready to deliver arguments that can be easily printed out and mailed to those college administrators, IT managers, and others that want to remove Macintosh computers from their organizations.
Stop by Down to the Letter <http://applewizards.net/dttl/> today, and look through our array of letters. There are letters for educational institutions, businesses, congresspeople, and even for friends! This is your opportunity to help support the computer and the company that has made technology fun, easy to use! Semper Mac!
It's in QuickTime format (of course! :) and is about a meg in size. I wasn't going to say anything about the Comdex demo of Win98 because...well...I've been in that position myself. There's NOTHING worse then having a demo go south on you. Having it go south on CNN is an order of magnitude that makes me too woozy to contemplate.
I just wanted to inform you that I have posted #12 of The RhapsodyOS Report, (April 19, 1998).
The RhapsodyOS Report is at: <http://RhapsodyOS.com/report/index.html>
The RhapsodyOS Report is a free weekly summary (updated every Sunday) of Apple Computer's Rhapsody Operating System news, software releases, rumors, Internet resources and related topics compiled by Raven Zachary with support provided by RhapsodyOS.com.
Thanks for your time,
Jason Caron Executive Producer <jason@rhapsodyos.com> <http://www.RhapsodyOS.com>
Regarding the recent EvangeList Tidbit "Credit Suisse First Boston Analyst 'gets' Apple":
You may be pleased to hear that Apple and its recent report of profit were the subject of a business roundtable discussion on the Fox News superstation Sunday morning. There was a consensus that Apple stands a good chance of coming out ahead under its new management.
Public Access Software today released conclusive proof that a Power Macintosh can and will "toast" a Bunny Suit as claimed in recent Apple Computer television commercials.
Evidence of this phenomenon is available on the Public Access Software web server:
<http://www.pasoftware.com/toast.html>
When asked to explain this phenomenon Public Access Software owner, Tim Mityok stated simply:
"The Power Macintosh incinerates anything having to do with a neon glow, dancing Bunny Suit."
The adage a picture is worth a thousand words is again substantiated by the photographic evidence present on the Public Access Software web site.
Please note no Mac OS computers were harmed in the testing process, the Bunny Suit is another matter however.
Well, things move quickly in this industry. No sooner do we report the Win NT Y2K problem then the page reporting the info on Microsofts site was yanked (not 404'd, mind you...simply blank) and reports came in regarding possible service pack fixes to the problem.
The original link (for those who can't resisit following these things up) is:
"Microsoft classifies its products for Y2K 'compliant,' 'Compliant w/minor issues,' and 'Not compliant.' The NT4.0 Workstation and Server editions appear to be 'Compliant w/minor issues,' whatever that means. They list software required to be 'in compliance,' however at least one of the pieces required is in beta form...lovely! But don't worry, everything will be a-ok by 1999..."
