Date: Sun, 3 May 1998 23:45:28 -0700 From: Guy Kawasaki <Kawasaki@garage.com> Subject: PR - Gradekeeper 4.9 Available
Keyword: Market by market, Education
This announcement is from:
Daniel Ethier, <dethier@pclink.com>
Gradekeeper is a powerful, easy to use gradebook program for the Macintosh. Gradekeeper is used by thousands of teachers. More than one hundred schools have purchased site licenses to use Gradekeeper. Visit <http://www.gradekeeper.com> for more information.
Version 4.9 adds the following improvements:
You can now choose a single term school year. You can now enter "inc" to mark an assignment incomplete. The class attendance report now includes semester and year totals. The grade summary on the student scores report now includes percents. The category summary on the student scores report now includes letter grades. You can now choose to list only students actually missing assignments on that report. The Import command will automatically add new categories and is more forgiving of errors.
Version 4.9 fixes the following problems:
Pasting a student into another class did not recompute grades. Setting scale to less than 50 percent did not work correctly when printing. Error - -5000 when saving classes which are located on an Appleshare file server.

Date: Mon, 4 May 1998 02:06:29 -0000 From: John Halbig <john@garage.com> Subject: Tidbit - Surfermag.com Mac Plug
This tidbit is from:
Tim O'Neill, <adsma@tiac.net>
As an owner of a Macintosh-exclusive web firm, I enjoy reading the various plugs that Macintosh-using webmasters can't resist to type on the bottom of their 'splash' page... very similiar to the signature file in E-Mail.
But this one seems to stand out. It can be found <@> <http://www.surfermag.com>, a surfing info site. The design & layout is great, and so is the plug:
"This site is built and maintained with Apple Macintosh Computers (Where nary a config.sys.exe.dot is to be found). How else could we have built such a cool site? (No, they didn't pay us for the plug)"

This request is from:
George Wagner, <g.wagner@sylvania.sev.org>
One of my clients is running into the "Windows migration" mentality from their IS Dept. Since they are a state funded college, I was curious if anyone knew what requirements are mandated by the government in such situations. I am hoping that there are some required cost-benefit analyses that must be performed, since none have been done.
Also, while I have several independent sources of costs to support Intel/Windows systems, I have no such source for the costs to support Macs (other than the Gartner Group Study that is several years old). If anyone has any sources, please let me know.
Any information that might be useful would be appreciated.

graduation at our local community college.
Mr. Wozniak will be speaking June 12 at Southwestern Oregon Community College in Coos Bay Oregon. <http://www.southwestern.cc.or.us>
I am thrilled that Mr. Wozniak has agreed to come to our rural community. I hear he was invited by a long time friend/acquaintance Kat Flores, who is a senior computer programmer at the college.
Macs have been semi-outlawed at our college by the college president. The few that still remain are being guarded by a brave few who will have to have their hands chopped off before giving them up.
I know it's only a dream, but a couple of hundred Mac fans wearing Apple T's showing up at graduation would be cool. The Southern Oregon coast is a nice place to visit!
