Magic bunny shows clueless author how to keep the beat as CEO-shaman exhorts Mac masses to go forth and multiply.

David K. Every from MacKiDo, <http://www.mackido.com/> brilliantly explains the Mac OS ease-of-use advantage by comparing it against the Windows 95 look & feel. His topics include screen layout, color, menus, windows and last but not not least the famous start button. The menu comparison article also covers NeXTstep and the BeOS. Bookmark this site because he plans to deliver more of his human interface experience. He writes about The Start Menu:
"Microsoft gives us lots of ammo for examples of bad user interface. When running Windows95, the first things the users sees is bad -- the Start Menu. And it is bad for so many different reasons."

This tidbit is from:
Steve Husty, <husty@mail-fair.ivv.nasa.gov>
I got this information from the excellent Mac news resource MacInTouch (www.macintouch.com). There is an item there about a quantum computer simulation from a company called: Artiste <http://www.ar-tiste.com/index.html>. For those who don't know, a quantum computer is *possibly* the future of computing architecture. Instead of using the flow of electrons through gates as switches....electrons themselves become switches....reducing the "size" of components by a magnitude of approx. 1000 times. There is a good article at the San Jose Mecury <http://www1.sjmercury.com/scitech/center/quantum0428.htm>.
The REALLY cool part about the simulator though is that it is a Mac ONLY product. I don't know how well it works or simulates a qc, but I think its cool that the author has chosen to make it Mac only, and his website says so! Kick Butt!
For all you quantum mechanic, computer nerds and physics profs who love the Mac, give this software a shot. Like all good Mac software authors, there's a demo! :)
(Note: I am in no way affiliated with Artiste....I just think Quantam Mechanics and Macs are WAAAY COOL!!)

This request is from:
Tom Sextro, <tsextro@mail.holton.k12.ks.us>
I'm trying to develop web based training modules for our students and teachers. I have two questions. Can anybody share any innovative ideas on how to create a good web based training environment? Is there a software program that captures screen actions and saves them as SMALL quicktime movies? I'd like to use these movies to demonstrate various skills.

Hey folks,
I seem to remember a software package mentioned sometime last year that captured screen actions as a QuickTime movie, only I couldn't find it in the archives. Any suggestions?

This request is from:
plato, <plato@mauimail.com>
Two years ago a top-ranked independent high school successfully replaced its 286/386 PCs with Macs. A state-of-the-art science facility will be added this year. Science department members are leaning towards purchasing PCs for the labs, claiming that the best lab software for their science courses (Physics, Physics 2, Chemistry, and Biology) is available only for UNIX or Windows. They are looking for stripped-down versions of industrial scientific software. Excellent science software of this type must be available for the Macintosh. Can anybody provide information (names of products, links to web sites, case studies, etc.) that will help my argument? Thanks.

Just wanted to thank everyone from the Evangelist who has been tuning in to the Computer Show on WGST here in Atlanta (640AM/105.7FM), the response has been great. I would like to apologize, however, for a scheduling change that may have caught some of you off guard. Our show is now on at 8am, instead of 9am. Anyone who has tuned in the last few weeks has been greeted by Rush Limbaugh, and not our show, and granted Rush is supposedly a Mac guy himself so I will hold my political commentary. I have registered a domain name for the show now, so you can get the latest scheduling information, show notes, Mac news, and answers to your questions. Please check it out at:
<http://www.maccompshow.com>
We will hopefully have a complete site up before long. The site is being hosted by Reprahduce, so the as the web page says it is "Created with, served by, and best viewed on a Mac!". The Mac segment of the show, hosted by myself, is now a permanent addition to the program so please continue to tune in and reap the benefits of all of your efforts in getting this Mac segment off the ground.
Thanks again for listening.

This request is from:
George Storm, <coyotestairs@earthlink.net>
This is an urgent call for help, If this fails I will be forced to the dark side.
We are in need of a CAD system (mechanical engineering) that can perform
FEAs and generate CAM output. It must have a robust solid modeler, preferably animation capability and
an interface that does not send us to windoze hell. We need two seats immediately, money is not an issue, no dongles please.
Obviously we require it to run on a Macintosh (PPC).
Any recommendations would be appreciated. I promise to compile and re-submit.

As Mac-only software developers, we have a page on our web-site explaining why we don't do Windows. Today I was checking the logs for our web-site and I noticed that someone had done a search on HotBot for "why+windows+is+better+than+mac" and found our "Why Macintosh" page. I then checked to see if this person had visited any of the other pages on our site. Sad to say, he read our "why mac" page and left. Just for fun, I then went to HotBot and did the same search. Our page came up seventh. The great part was that of the first 30 results, the vast majority were pro-Mac and unfavorable to Windows. Here is a sample of what turned up:
- -- The banner ad which appeared on the results pages of HotBot was for Microsoft Office '98 for MAC
- -- Four pages were from Insignia's web-site (the makers of SoftWindows for Mac)
- -- 12 other pages all appeared to be pro-Mac arguments. These included:
Our "Why Mac" page <http://www.oaksoft.com/mac.htm> The Mac EvangeList web-site The Insanely Great Mac - Editorial Page MacSpectre Headline News A page of links to Mac-related sites A page of quotable quotes by Steve Jobs And a page which simply began with the words "I hate Windows"
- -- Most of the other pages appeared to be generic advertisements for various cross-platform software products, computer consultants, modems, etc. (Nothing explicitly pro-Windows.)
- -- A mere 2 pages (ranked at 21 and 22) appeared to be Windows propaganda pages from Microsoft.
Considering that this was a search for Why Windows is BETTER than Mac, I'd say this poor deluded Windows die-hard had engaged in a pretty fruitless search. It almost makes you feel sorry for this guy, doesn't it? ..... Naaaaaaw!!!

Hmmm...
You know this isn't a bad excercise for people to try from time to time. Take a moment and imagine yourself an anti-mac type. You loath Macs. You adore Widows.
Now, try to prove to someone (even if it's only yourself) how great Windows is compared to those stupid toys called Macintoshes.
Warning: Remember, this is only an EXCERCISE. ;-)
