Hi, Mac Fan!

For us, your ability to work well with these and other colleagues within Veronica Uitgeverij/Digitaal is every bit as important as the results you achieve in your work. We offer a pleasant working environment with lots of freedom, in which you can seize opportunities and achieve your ambitions.

This tidbit is from:
Jeff Weitzman, <jweitzman@thomtech.com>
Apple has updated its 'Think Different' billboard in Queens, New York, along a heavily traveled highway just outside La Guardia airport, and directly across from Shea Stadium. The billboard, which originally featured Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog, is huge, and can probably be seen by Mets fans through the open end of Shea Stadium. The new subject? Ted Turner, owner of the division rival Atlanta Braves.
Someone in marketing must really be "thinking different!"

Date: Mon, 18 May 1998 02:06:50 -0000 From: John Halbig <john@garage.com> Subject: PR - ramBunctious 1.3 (a Mac OS RAM disk) Available Now
This announcement is from:
Bob Clark, <bobc@oz.net>
Elden Wood and Bob Clark announce the immediate availability of ramBunctious 1.3.
ramBunctious 1.3 is a shareware ($12) RAM disk program for the Mac OS. Its rich set of features lets you customize your RAM disks for your desired balance of speed, security, safety, and versatility.
- - You can have several RAM disks mounted simultaneously, limited only by memory available.
- - ramBunctious has a "write-through" option. When activated, everything written to the RAM disk is saved to a (real) file. This means that the next time you mount the RAM disk, all the contents are still there. This helps protect against data loss in the event of a crash or power failure.
- - ramBunctious uses normal application memory. This means that when you're done using a RAM disk, that memory is available for other applications to use. In other words, you don't have to reboot to reclaim the memory.
- - Each RAM disk may be configured to be mounted automatically during the computer's startup process. - These options, and more, are fully user-configurable for each RAM disk via a status/settings window. In addition to the settings, the status window includes LED-like access indicators that flash when the RAM disk is being read from or written to.
What is new in ramBunctious 1.3?
Customers have spoken. We've listened. Here is the release to prove it.
Every feature in ramBunctious 1.3 was a direct response to a feature request by a registered user. Thanks to ramBunctious users for making this release possible.
- - ramBunctious can now be fully controlled by AppleScript. There are several sample scripts to give examples of using ramBunctious via this powerful interface.
- - A RAM-only checkbox is available when creating RAM disks, so no space is necessary on the hard drive for the image file when creating new RAM disks .
- - ramBunctious now remembers the name of the RAM disk volume, even when it's RAM-only.
- - The documentation display mechanism has been significantly improved.
ramBunctious 1.3 is available now. Download links and more information are available at the ramBunctious web site:
<http://www.kagi.com/rambunctious/>
ramBunctious 1.3 is also available on any info-mac mirror:

This announcement is from:
Jeremy Kezer, <jbkezer@kagi.com>

Version 1.0.1 has the following changes:
- - Fixed bug that could cause registration reminder to appear early. - - Weak link Open Transport for PPC Macs with MacTCP/IP. - - Corrected MacTCP/IP bug that would prevent connection. - - Expanded network time server list. - - Optimized code size slightly. - - Updated and expanded documentation.

This tidbit & request is from:
Gary D. Keller, <garydkeller@earthlink.net>
I work in the media dept of a large church on the east coast. We have four high end Power Macs in our dept, including an AVID - NLE. On the other end of the building is office staff and various other ministry depts. and unfortunately Wintel World. I have "Evangelized" all of them, gently, over time but I have had a great opportunity to make a decisive victory for Macs pop up this week.
Our Pastor asked me to get his computer connected to the internet. Now mind you, I had a business selling and servicing exclusively Wintel machines for 4 years before going into TV production full time. (and made a lot of money keeping wintels running) So I am no novice at these systems. But this Pentium/win95 has been nothing but a windows hell to connect to the internet. The PnP modem appears and disappears and switches com ports from bootup to bootup, and don't even let me get started with deleting IE 4 and switching to Netscape. This is where I began assigning a personality to this computer and saying it HATES non Microsoft programs!
After hours on the phone with the manufacturer we are sending it back (out of warrantee of course) for them to figure out. But guess what? I just happen to have a Powerbook 540c in the closet at home. It was great. I bring in the powerbook, plug it into the wall and phone jack, plug up his nice big "Wintel" monitor, fire it up with dual screens, click once on my internet icon, and pow, we are surfing, searching, and emailing in about five minutes. I can tell, he is instantly in love with the design and the mantra "ease of use." Not to mention the dual screens :-) The "Blackbird" is still a great computer.
Now this is where I need Evangelist help. It had been sitting in the closet for 5 months. (I have 4 Macs at home). Some how the system FILE shows as locked but also locks the whole harddrive(Mac OS 8.0). I cannot unlock it. Get info - locked is grayed out, but shows the file is locked. General Controls shows the system as NOT protected. I cannot delete (prefs) anything or install or write to in any way, the hard drive. ResEdit will not let me change anything. Therefore I cannot change over to his internet account and email address. He is using my account for now for browsing, but cannot get started with his own email.

You say your Internet Service Provider just told you that you no longer have unlimited hours online and that they will now charge you 99 cents an hour for every hour over 150 hours per month? How will you know when you go over 150 hours per month? You could go through the laborious process of logging in to the web site and entering your user ID and passwords and clicking on several levels of web pages until you get your current time used online. But that information can be up to two days old. There has to be a better way.
Email Checker will keep a running total of the hours you spend online and automatically reset the hours to zero each month at the beginning of your billing cycle.
It will even work if another application makes the PPP connection for you (as long as Email Checker is running).
This version also works with System 7 as well as OS 8.
Email Checker checks your email at specified time intervals using your email program, AppleScript and OpenTransport/PPP Email programs supported are: Claris Emailer and Claris Emailer Lite Eudora Pro, Eudora or Eudora Light Outlook Express
Flexible options let you check mail at a specified time interval in different ways:
1. Connect to the Internet, get mail and then hang up. 2. Connect to the Internet, get mail and don't hang up. 3. Get mail only when already connected to the Internet. 4. Get mail when your Mac starts up and continue checking for mail throughout the day.
If you choose to automatically connect when checking for mail, PPP will dial and connect in the background so you can continue working. Easy to set up. Uses your existing email accounts from your email program. Status window has a progress bar showing how much time is left until mail is checked again. Also shows the PPP connection status (open or closed), baud rate, minutes connected and accumulated hours online.
Email checker is available from the Carnation Software web site at:
