This tidbit is from:

Hans Fischmann, <hans@lmnotv.com>

Our production company is 98% MacOS, we have over 200 machines. Our shows
(seven are currently in production) are written, produced and edited on
Macs.

Our latest show on the Fox Network, Guinness World Records: Primetime,
goes one step further...It STARS Macs. The Guinness Judges work on a new
G3 laptop that sits right on their desk onstage. They use it for timing
or counting or whatever is asked. We also use higher end desktop machines
for judging that requires more processing power.

Be sure to watch your favorite computer on, your soon to be favorite
show, Guinness World Records: Primetime on Fox Tuesday Nights at 9pm

Subject: PR - Quadrivio Updates Data Tool For Developers

This announcement is from:

<info@quadrivio.com>

Quadrivio Corporation announced General Edit 1.0.2, an update to the file
utility designed to help Mac OS programmers view or edit data files with
complex binary formats. The new version handles recursive formats such as
QuickTime. A free updater for registered users and the $195 on-line
version are available from Quadrivio's web site.

General Edit, introduced in January, has become a valued addition to the
toolbox of Mac OS developers. Users report saving days of debugging
effort through the utility's ability to display simply, clearly, and
interactively the contents of complicated data structures. The tool is a
powerful alternative to simple hex or ASCII file editors. The user types
familiar, C-like statements to specify the file format.

The format is checked and compiled interactively and the tool immediately
displays the file's contents in one or more formats. The file's format
specification can be saved separately and re-used. The new version ships
with example definitions for portions of the PICT, TIFF, and QuickTime
file formats. Quadrivio Corporation can be reached at:

An excerpt:

"Apple's survival startles skeptics : How PC innovator has `hung in there'

Christopher Ott
Computers

Wasn't Apple supposed to be out of business by now?

During three dismal years, Apple lost hundreds of millions of dollars,
the Macintosh's market share plunged and the company scrambled its
strategy for taking the Mac operating system into the future. But
finally, things seem to have turned around.

Today Apple pesters the competition with a chip called the G3 that's
faster than the Pentium II, the company has had three consecutively
profitable quarters and in August, Apple will make a closely watched
debut of its new consumer-oriented iMac ("i" for Internet), a $1,299
computer with a G3 processor, a built-in monitor and 56k modem. You'll
know the iMac when you see it because it's got a redesigned case that
looks almost extraterrestrial. ..."

Shareware Games That Don't Suck
- ------------------------------
By Jason Sims
<jasons@macosdaily.com>

The anemic Mac gaming scene is on the road to recovery...soon we'll be
able to play all kinds of great high-profile games - like the ones that
have made PC gamers the envy of all those who use the other operating
systems for most of this decade - and all the little elves will rejoice,
and candyland will once again be a happy place. Or something like that.
With all this high-budget software on its way, who will even bother to
play those crappy little shareware games anymore?

We have also compiled a page full of the many emails recieved about the
recent stories from Charles W. Moore covering Motorola's NT decision. A
must see... <http://www.macosdaily.com/moore/motomails.shtml>

Subject: Tidbit - Bose Uses Macs For In-Store Promo

This tidbit is from:

Kent Cabreira, <cabreira@atie.org>

I recently purchased a Bose Acoustimass -10 from a Bose outlet store in
Gilroy, CA for my home stereo system. While there, I saw a computer setup
and decided to look at it out of curiousity. I'm planning to plug my Mac
into my stereo system, but was curious nonetheless.

Bose makes a couple different systems for computer sound systems. I began
playing with the computer and the interactive demonstration and the sales
guy I was working with for the Acoustimass -10 asked what computer I had.
I proudly told him I had a G3. He said a Mac was running the interactive
demonstration. I asked where it was, and he said it was underneath the
counter, but was a slow, older model. I crawled underneath and saw that
it was of the Quadra 660AV/PowerMac 6100 type. I could only see the back
of the CPU, not much else.

We began talking about Apple's recent "recovery" and the new iMac coming
out. He had heard that the iMac didn't have a CD-ROM drive, but I eased
his mind and told him the plans, features, and the many products
available for the iMac.

Not only was I impressed with the quality of information the sales guy
gave me about the Bose system I was purchasing, I was equally impressed
that he knew of and supported Apple. Even more impressive was the insight
Bose had into creating an interactive demo of their products using the
Apple platform and Macromedia software.

I fully believe in buying quality. Bose was my only choice for a speaker
system and Apple is my only choice for a computer platform.

Long live the Mac, and Bose!

Kent Cabreira

Digital Guy Sez:

I *still* have a set of Bose computer speakers in the white cases AND the
Apple logo (later versions chenged this to a rainbow square). I've been
abusing these speakers about ten years now, and aside from the fact I
should probably replace the mini-jack plug, they're still working great.

Oh, and I've been to that store...a very dangerous place, credit card
wise. ;-)

Subject: $$ - Gridz 1.2 Special Offer

This special offer is from:

Norma Hammond, <norma@greendragon.com>

Green Dragon Creations is proud to announce the release of Gridz 1.2.

Gridz 1.2 offers players three very important new options. Gridz 1.2
allows players in single play mode access to two options which were
previously only available to players during network play: Timed Nodes and
Hacker Blips. When players select the Timed Nodes option, the game
destroys nodes after 30 seconds, making game play much more challenging.
Players can also be alerted to where they are being attacked by selecting
the Hacker Blips option. When this option is selected, the computer will
indicate graphically where a player is being attached on the overview
map. A plus for people who were routinely being defeated by the computer
while playing Gridz with the sound off while at work.

For anyone who needs a fiercer challenge, Gridz 1.2 also offers a Smarter
Enemies option which activates a new faster, leaner, meaner AI.

Current users of either Gridz 1.0 or Gridz 1.1 can upgrade to Gridz 1.2
for free by downloading the Gridz 1.2 updater from the Gridz website at
<http://www.gridz.com>.

To celebrate the release of Gridz 1.2, we are offering a free Gridz
t-shirt (while supplies last) to any EvangeLista who purchases Gridz 1.2.
In order to get this special offer, order Gridz 1.2 from the Gridz
website at <http://www.gridz.com>, and in the "Where did you hear about
Gridz?" section of the order form, type EvangeLista Special T-Shirt Offer.

CSM & PowerBook Testers Needed

If you have a PowerBook 500 series or "new" PowerBook G3 series, with two
batteries, I'd be interested in some help testing an update to my Battery
Control Strip Module. It seems that Apple has switched the left & right
positions of the batteries on the new G3 PowerBooks, and I'd like to test
my changes on both the PowerBook 500 series and the new G3's (which are
the only PowerBooks that can support two batteries simultaneously).

If you'd like to help, please reply. Thanks!
