quality of content is very good; this mag is well worth paying the $5. Go

This tidbit is from:

Now there's a one-stop website for owners of "older" Macs.

A great statement of the superiority of our beloved Macs is the fact that
so many people still love and productively use machines which are more
than a decade old. Even the yet older Apple IIe or IIgs machines are
still being upgraded and used in surprisingly large numbers.

My love affair with Macintosh started on an old Mac LC (I'm up to a
Quadra 605 now). It was sometimes necessary to seek advice about the best
ways to get the most from my "obsolete" computer. While there is much
on-line information available about older Macs, it often required some
searching to locate.

That's why I built the "Resources For The Older Macintosh" page.

"Resources For The Older Macintosh" at
<http://w3.trib.com/~dwood/oldmac.html> is a sort of one-stop website for
information about these wonderful "older" machines. So far I've collected
together in one place over 50 links to other sites providing such sources
of information.

If you give this page a visit please use the form provided to suggest any
additional "older" Mac info sites I may have missed.

Blood Pong Attacks the Mac!

<http://www.mbyte.com/Temp_bp1.html>

This is the future of Pong sport. Now on the Macintosh! Blood Pong is the
ultimate concept of ball chasing fun. Not only can you smack the ball
around, you can destroy the other player using special moves. There are
other pong games, but only one adds Kombat action that allows you to rip
your opponent in half! Blood Pong takes the classic game of yester-year
and adds a whole new dimension of Kung-Fu Fighting action. Packed with
power moves and fierce blows, Blood Pong is guranteed to bring out the
Bruce Lee in you.

Blood Pong is brought to you by Monkey Byte Development, llc.:

Subject: Tidbit - Macs On WB Show "Felicity" Play Key Role

This tidbit is from:

<mailto: "Domenico Bettinelli" dom@bettnet.com>

Okay, I don't normally watch the WB show "Felicity" (about a college
freshman in New York with all the love and romance angst you could want
- -- or stomach), but it was on in the background last night as I was
online. What perked up my ears was a brief bit of dialogue that included
Macs.

Let me set the scene: A dorm resident assistant is having some problems
with his long-distance girlfriend who is moving to New York to be with
him. It seems all is not well in paradise, and that they are drifting
apart. But the moment that he knows it's over is when he finds out that
she is no longer a Mac user.

The girlfriend: "I bought a new computer."

The RA: "Oh, tell me you got one of those new iMacs. Those things are
cool."

Girlfriend: "No, I bought a PC. It's 300 mhz."

RA (stunned look on face): "You ... you're not a Mac user anymore?"

After that it's all over but the weeping. (There was some more
relationship stuff, but we knew it was done after this.) Priceless!
There's a real Evangelist on the writing staff of Felicity!

Subject: ?? - Need Info On SMS Vs. NetOctopus

This request is from:

<mailto: "Barbara Nachtigall" Barbara_Nachtigall@hmco.com>

I work at a large corporation which is roughly half MAC and half PC
(about 1500 each). The "powers-that-be" are trying to claim that
Microsoft SMS is the best software distribution/asset management choice
for the company. However, the MAC guys already have NetOctopus installed
and working very well.

The first question is, have any of you had experience with both SMS and
NetOctopus? We have heard here that SMS causes Macs to be very unstable
and that the information it can gather is nowhere near as thorough as
that available with NetOctopus. Any input would be appreciated

We have also heard that SMS is not as easy to use, since there is no Mac
version of the Admin tool. The second question is, do any of you have any
first-hand experience with SMS on a Mac platform, and what is your
opinion of same?

I will be happy to share any feedback with those who are interested.
Thanks for your assistance!

Subject: ?? - MacGamer Mailing List In Need of Volunteers For Web Design

This request is from:

<mailto: "Greg Andrews" andrewsgreg@hotmail.com>

As our list grows (were almost at 500 members in just 5 weeks), we are
continually in need of a decent web site. The site we have now is so
remarkably cheap I would be embarrassed to give out the URL.

We at MacGamer would really like to make a nice site, but have little
time to make a good site. We need volunteers! You don't have to do
everything, I have some intermediate HTML skills. I don't want nothing
too flashy, just a simple, appealing, site for people to subscribe to the
list, check up on previous issues, etc. I would be willing to give
advertising to any volunteers sites.

If you wish to volunteer, send a message to
<mailto:andrewsgreg@hotmail.com> saying why you want to and what your web
design skills are. I look forward to reading your messages

Greg Andrews
MacGamer Top Dude

PS if want to subscribe, the mailbox is always open. Just send a message
to <mailto:andrewsgreg@hotmail.com> with the subject line "show me

Issue #4 goes out Nov. 27.

Subject: ?? - TIFF Group 4 Software

This request is from:

<mailto: "Anette" anette@ping-net.de>

My boyfriend is the network admin at a big german Free Ad Paper
(www.dhd.de) and works in an Mac-only prepress environment. Now the
bosses want him to change the production method: Instead of printing out
offset films on laser printers, the complete data for all issues is going
to be sent to the printery to achieve a computer-to-plate solution.

The new printery works with NT only, and their plan is to install
something like a "black box" with an NT system that will do ALL the work
- - show up as an AppleTalk printer for the users, work as a RIP for all
the data (about 130 GB/week), output TIFF Group 4 (printery needs this
format) and manage the file transfer. Of course he does not like this
idea very much.

He is now looking for a piece of Mac software that is at least able to
read and handle TIFF Group 4 files. He found out that this has to do with
a standard Fax compression method (CCITT). He could not find any solution
for the Mac.

Does anyone know about such a software or can give some useful tips ? We
would really like to show those NT guys that the Mac can handle this too
