MacTemps Jams Volume One: Holistic Tonality
A compilation of 17 rock, folk, rhythm and blues, house and instrumental numbers performed by the talent and staff of MacTemps: people who work as Web page designers, graphic artists or computer trouble shooters for MacTemps clients by day, but who nurture bigger dreams on their off hours. From the liner notes:
"We are a community of talent. Artists, designers, engineers, entrepreneurs. Drawn together to pool our talent to create images, words, applications, and solutions that enable our clients to communicate their messages to the world. This is our day job. But our talent does not end at 5 o'clock. Many of us work nights or weekends, pouring our talent into dreams that our own, personal message might be heard. From coffeehouses in New Jersey to clubs in Los Angeles, from our Atlanta living room to a Toronto studio, from a jam session in Boston to a blues jam in Chicago, MacTemps Jams all around the world. So whether you write lines of copy, lines of code or lines of music, add your voice to our talent. We invite you to hear and be heard. But don't quit your day job!"
Order your copies today at <http://www.mactemps.com>. Limited edition price is $14.95. Orders placed before Dec. 20th will arrive in time for Christmas. This CD is a self-funding venture. All contributing artists volunteered their talent, and all proceeds from the sale of this CD will cover production costs, and then form a fund for future Jams projects. This announcement is from:
Rev. Glenn A. Lucas <PastorG@kagi.com>
I have updated and released a stand alone version of my popular church management software, Church Membership Keeper. It is available for download at:
This new version of Church Membership Keeper has been greatly enhanced. New features include:
* Church Membership Keeper is now a stand alone program. * The ability to store and recover the data of "old records" from CMK's main file. This allows the main file to remain uncluttered by records that may be outdated while being able to recover the data should it be needed later. * Users may now create two distinct Family ID# so that they can create more than one relationship between files. This is ideal for linking immediate family members in one relationship and extended family members in a second relationship. * Users may now Option click many of CMK's buttons and fields in the main file for quick help about that item. * A new Favorite support database for tracking favorite Scripture passages, hymns/songs, confirmation verse, and funeral service planning information. * Find Birthdays for a given month and output them to a text file. * Find Anniversaries for a given month and output them to a text file. * Users may now print Letters, Post Cards, Labels, & Envelopes that are personal or addressed to a household (e.g. The Smith Household). * The Children and Youth support databases have been combined. * Cleaner & less cluttered appearance * The usual assorted bug fixes (and probably the addition of new ones :-) ).

Internet Valley, a Burlingame, California-based Internet consulting company, has performed a great deal of research regarding the Web influence of the top 100 computer companies and computer magazines over the last three years, and we recently published the 1998 version of each listing, which can be found on our Web site. This data shows Apple Computer to be among the leaders in Web influence among its competitors. As electronic commerce expands and becomes more integrated into every-day business, we believe that those sites without strong Web influence will suffer financially, and those that have strong presence will benefit. In 1996, we coined the term Web Influence, to describe a company's ability to build community and brand-name recognition on the Web. This year, we have created the iFactor, which relates a company's current state of Web influence to their possible e-commerce expectations. (http://www.internetvalley.com/sales97.html) Apple Computer ranked quite well in its level of iFactor with a 3.54 (1.0 is normal). This means that the company's level of Web influence is substantially higher than its level of sales would otherwise indicate. (which you and I both knew already) Other companies you may find of interest:
(A score of 1.0 iFactor denotes equivalent rank of sales to Web influence)
Hardware companies: iFactor:
Compaq .396 Dell .686 IBM .336
Mac Software: iFactor:
Adobe 32.7 Microsoft 6.91 Intuit 2.59
The top 100 Companies, ranked in order of Web influence, can be found at:
<http://www.internetvalley.com/web97.html>
Please take a chance to look at the data which we have compiled. It has great interest to the future of the Internet and the computer industry. If you have any questions, feel free to call me, or simply reply on e-mail. Thanks a lot. Louis Gray

MacNexus Builds State Of The Art iMac(R) Lab
MacNexus is pleased to announce that it will fund a new computer lab at Coloma Center at 4623 T Street, Sacramento, CA, boasting ten iMac computers sitting on a T1 internet connection. Scheduled to be completed by January 15, 1999, MacNexus will use this new lab to attract new members to the user group (iMac buyers looking for help and guidance on the machine) as well as use the lab for offering new training delivery methodologies to existing members. You can help MacNexus leverage the existence of this training lab by motivating your friends to buy iMacs, and by having them join MacNexus.
MacNexus has paid to have its internet T1 feed carried from one side of Coloma Center to the other side via a fiber optic backbone cable, and has purchased all the necessary 3COM equipment to have a state of the art network on both sides of the building. As part of this wiring project, there will be a single ethernet jack in every room we use for teaching, and a single ethernet jack in the auditorium for use by the triage volunteers, plus 40 ethernet ports in the lab itself. Computer rolling carts, chairs, software, and other accessories are being provided by Access Sacramento, with most of the electrical work funded by the City offices that reside at Coloma Center. All of these contributions total approximately $50,000 to construct and equip the lab, the MacNexus portion being approximately $22,000.
What does the lab mean to the average computer user in Sacramento? "We hope to deliver training to those members who cannot learn by just looking at a projected image at the front of the room. We hope to build more bonds with the community. We hope to provide a credible showcase for Apple technology. And we hope to coax more of you into sharing your knowledge of the Macintosh, and becoming instructors, or instructor-assistants, to allow us to offer training classes in the evenings and on other days of the month besides the first Saturday of each month" said Bill Davies, president of MacNexus.
How will MacNexus recoup its investment in this lab? There are essentially three funding mechanisms. First, Access Sacramento has an employee soliciting corporate grants. Corporations are being asked to buy "one station" at $3600 in return for their logo upon the station. Second, this room will continue to be a normal part of the Coloma facility, and the room will be available for rent for an hourly fee by any organization that wishes to book time in the room. (The room will also have ten Windows PCs, sponsored by Hewlett-Packard and the Sacramento County Office of Education.) Third, solicitation of cash donations from any member of the community. These individual donations should be given to Access Sacramento, and if paid by check, write "Access Academy" on the notation line of the check. Your tax deduction to this project is tax-deductible as long as the contribution is made to Access Sacramento. For more information on any of these three funding mechanisms, for information on how to donate, or to make reservations for use of the room, please contact wes.doak@macnexus.org.
"We thank all members for their ongoing support of MacNexus, and hope that this project will spur more members become involved with the organization. Credit for the lab goes to the outgoing Board of Directors, including Bill Davies, Karen Downs, Richard Park, Ron Leonard, Brian Taugher, Richard Applebaum, and Bob White. We also thank Wes Doak for the large number of hours he spent doing financial projections and cajoling the partners into this collaboration, as well as Stan Lunetta and Mike Flaherty for their participation in the planning, and Erik Eeg and Kelly Nickel at 3COM for their advice and insight on how to accomplish this within our budget," said Bill Davies.
MacNexus is the Sacramento Macintosh User Group, a non-profit organization founded in 1984, and dedicated to the principle of empowering its members to make full and optimum use of their Macintosh computers. The lab is a joint project of Access Sacramento, MacNexus, the Sacramento County Office of Education, and the City of Sacramento.
