I have a friend that has created a program in Xbase.
At the moment the program runs only on DOS (yes believe it or not!!)
He has mentioned that he will be porting the program to Windoze, UNIX, and "possibly Mac".
My question to the list is this: Does anyone know of a compiler that will allow a direct port of the software to Mac.
I am unfamiliar with programming and the languages used (from My point of view there are as many programming languages as there are spoken ones - maybe even more!!!)
If there is enough interest - I would be happy to summarize!

I have also been on a long personal search for that very simple " Moon Lander" game from the arcades of the early 80's.
Any of these also available in FRENCH would be a definite plus to our bilingual camp.

Hear this plea from the mother of a very smart 9-year-old who wants nothing more than to bring a game idea to life. Please point us to software and books to get started. We've found Klik & Play and Create and Play (both for PCs and now phased out, according to manufacturer), a for-Dummies book for developers using PCs. . . Everything using C or C+ and even more tres complique and bizarre for those of us with zippo coding experience. No mention of Macs (we have a PowerPC with 7.5 system).
Did you ever notice that 'game development software' can be abbreviated to 'g.d. software'?

The UK "Dixons" High Street store set up "Freeserve" Internet access and in just 16 weeks has attracted over 700,000 customers! Just walk into any Dixons store and ask for the free Internet CD. I did just that:
"I'd like the free Internet CD, please". "Certainly, Sir, here you are". "Thanks but I need the Macintosh version". "Oh, I've been asked for that thousands of times. I'm sick of telling people there's NO demand for it!"
Dixons apparently don't realise that a half-page set of instructions (less for OS 8.5) could get them another million customers in the UK. Oh well....

Peek-a-Boo is a shareware ($20) utility to monitor and manipulate all running processes. You can watch how much CPU time each process uses, as well as look at any piece of information available through the Process Manager, sorting them by a variety of attributes.
Peek-a-Boo lets you open CPU history windows to track how much processor power a process uses.
Logging windows can be opened, too, to watch memory and processor usage, optionally saving the information to a tab-delimited file for further analysis.

A posting in the WordPerfect (Mac) mailing list brought an interesting article to my attention--a history of Microsoft's demise from the point of view of 2026. It's available here <http://www.seattleweekly.com/features/topia0114/index.html> at the Seattle Weekly web site.
The author, D.S. Topia--turns out to be none other than Fred Moody (my brother in law), who also writes about Microsoft for ABCNEWS.com. (Some of his columns have been brought to the attention of the Evangelist in the past.) I recognized his style, then confirmed in person.
The capper on this story is that Fred saw a friend's father set up an iMac recently and is sold on this wonderful new machine. A complete computer neophyte set up the computer, chose an ISP and logged on in just a few minutes.

On January 6, 1999, at the Regina Hotel in San Francisco, the 1998 User Group Academy Awards were hosted at The Apple User Group Breakfast. The event opened with an enjoyable breakfast hour shared by some 300 user group delegates who gathered from around the world. Apple Computer then unveiled the 1999 G3 and iMac product lines with multimedia presentations. At 9:15 am, event hostess Brighid Brady-de Lambert (Apple Computer's User Group Support Department) officially opened the 1998 User Group Academy Awards with kind introductions for the Academy spokespersons Fred Showker and Dan Sailers. Dan Sailers, UG Academy Director delivered a brief message reflecting on the Academy's past, present and future. Fred Showker, Awards Coordinator then presented the slate of awards with award winners coming forward to receive award plaques or grand award trophies.
