Josh Turiel <mailto:josht@janeshouse.com>

In the just-released issue #1 of DC Comics' Supermen of America
comic, A young hero called Outburst pays a visit to archvillain Lex
Luthor's penthouse suite to complain about being criticized in an
on-line piece by Luthor's Lexcomm company. What's prominently shown
on Luthor's desk throughout the scene? That's right, an iMac -
rendered faithfully down to the logo on top (the scene is on page 19,
by the way). So they're not just for the good guys anymore, I guess -
hopefully this one isn't Kryptonite Green instead of Bondi Blue...

On a vaguely related note, have you heard that Stan Lee (famous for
creating more comic book characters then I can remember at the
moment, not to mention popularizing the phrase "'Nuff said!" in his
editorials) is creating his first characters in 30 years...a slew of
Internet super heroes. Somebody send that man a new G3! :-)

This tidbit is from:

"Nathan M. Ford" <mailto:nford@zip.com.au>

Staffers at Australia's most popular car magazine must have recently
taken "delivery" of a new iMac. For the past two months they have
either shown pictures or compared a car/vehicle with the iMac.

The January (released December) issue feature a number of picture of
the iMac. Their feature article, "Top Ten" makes reference to Sony's
PSX Grand Turismo as the "inspiration for the" article. With numerous
pictures of both the iMac and Sony hardware, makes you wonder if they
received advance notice of Connectix's PSX emulator??

The February (released January) issue compares Honda's Step Deck
concept car with the iMac. Bob Hall writes "For a glamorous,
high-tech golf cart, the Step Deck is so cool looking, with design
details and a colour scheme which look as though they were cribbed
from Apple's iMac computer (complete with transparent 'Bondi Blue'
hubcaps on the alloys)."

Its nice to see Apple's products making inroads into areas that
normally wouldn't even rate a mention.

Lundstrom Design <mailto:ludesign@algonet.se>

Once again Macs have played a key part in a cool art project. During
December 1998 a 24x14x11.5 meter inflatable light drop has been
displayed outside the House of Parliament in Stockholm, Sweden. The
Light Drop, designed by sculptor / architect Monica Gora, was one of
the final events of the "Stockholm European Cultural Capitol of 1998"
project.

The shape was modeled in the (Mac only) 3D modeling and unfolding
program Touch-3D, including optimizing the panels to fit into the
desired sheet width. The entire model consists of about 815 square
meters of fabric, and individual 67 panels (besides the floor
panels). The unfolded panels where exported to a laser cutting
machine normally used for cutting sails at Gransegel (Gran Sails) in
Stockholm (powered by Macs of course). The entire process from
modeling to delivery only took about a week.

The internal lights consist of three "fusion" lights, which create a
very powerful light.

Who says that the Mac can only be used for graphical design?

Jacob Matthan Jr <mailto:findians@global.netppl.fi>

Thank you for keeping us active during 1998 on the Apple/Mac books front.

We have just updated our main 1998 page of Apple/Mac books and CDs.
It was a record year with over 230 publications - exceeding the
previous best year 1984 when 188 books were published. 1999 promises
to be another great year as we are already listing 10 new books!

For the complete updated list you can visit

<http://www.netppl.fi/~jmatthan/98applebk.html>

The total number of books listed by us on Apple/Mac now exceeds 1700.

The other individual sections will be updated shortly.

Please do let us know if any books / CDs are missing. Corrective
action will be made as soon as possible.

Any Mac book author wanting his or her own page listing his/her books
will be accommodated. You only have to ask and send us a list of the
books published by you. We will do the rest.

European buyers can now use our European Amazon.co.uk service to
reduce delivery time and postage costs by entering the name of book
or the ISBN number, etc. in the Amazon.co.uk search box provided.

Wish you all a great 1999.

Subject: ?? - Need Help Locating Shareware Author So I Can Pay Him

This request is from:

Leon Oboler <mailto:leonobol@voicenet.com>

I'm trying to locate a Mac shareware developer named Matthew Klein,
the developer of GUY FRIDAY. According to the docs in the software,
he was attending Stanford B-school in the early '90s. I WANT TO PAY
HIM FOR HIS TERRIFIC SOFTWARE!!! Unfortunately, all the contact
information available to send payment (via Digital Money, or
contacting him at <mailto:71062.1251@compuserve.com,> or even
snailmail to his last published address) have failed. I found the
software featured on ZNET.

GUY FRIDAY is a freeform database that I started to use as a means of
keeping track of where I filed things. As an adult sufferer of ADD
(Attention Deficit Disorder), on of my biggest problems is
remembering where I put stuff. WinTel has PAPER TIGER software that
does this job.

After a LOT of searching, I found GUY FRIDAY. It works GREAT and does
everything I want (and only uses 500K). It's so small that I can keep
it active (as a startup app) and have it there any time I need to
find or input some information. The problem is that Klein created a
limited use version that must be unlocked after payment -- but I
can't figure out how to contact him to pay him.

I suppose I could program (or find?) a FileMaker app to do the same
job -- but I would then have to keep FileMaker active.

HELP! Can anyone either help me 1) find Matthew Klein (so I can pay
him) or 2) suggest alternate small, fast, freeform database apps
similar in operation to the WinTel product PAPER TIGER?

As an ADD sufferer myself (ADHD, actually... it's how I find enough
hours in the day. ;-), not to mention a major proponant of shareware,
let's see if we can come up with something for Leon. :-)
