Job opening: Sales and Marketing Assistant, Dantz Development Corporation
Dantz Development Corporation, makers of the award winning Retrospect backup software, is seeking a detail oriented, ethusiastic person to assist our OEM and Product Marketing departments. The Sales and Marketing Assistant will have both daily support tasks as well as an opportunity to take on a variety of long term projects. The Assistant will also interact with all deparments within the company and may have opportunities to represent Dantz in the computer industry.
Primary Responsibilities:

Advanced Ideas is seeking beta testers for its new cross platform network application called InformUser.
InformUser allows a system administrator to broadcast messages to all his/her users without the users being logged into a server. For instance, if a server goes down, the administrator can broadcast a message to all users indicating the status. InformUser is a cross-platform solution allowing the system administrator to broadcast messages to Macintosh and Windows users simultaneously.
The current beta is for Macintosh only (Windows version coming soon). Candidates must be system administrators with at least 10 Macs on their TCP/IP based network that they can install the software.

TABPerfect, an application for creating musical tablature for fretted stringed instruments, is now available as freeware on the AcuTab web site! This software was originally developed by Dr. Donald Miller for The Banjo NewsLetter magazine and was offered commercially for $225.
Dr. Miller is no longer able to offer support for this application so he has decided to give it away to the Mac community of banjo pickers, guitar strummers and mandolin pluckers.
There is NO WINDOWS VERSION available. =)
TABPerfect uses a custom font to create the tab files so they are very small text files which can be easily placed in word processing, page layout or illustration programs. AcuTab Publications has used this software for all of our banjo books and it is still used by Banjo NewsLetter.

"One final note: People often diss the Mac's lack of business solutions, but in one booth we saw two products that impressed us. Ensign Systems was showing POS*IM, a complete point-of-sale system based on the Mac, and Tellan Software was showing MacAuthorize*Hub, a credit card processing application for the Mac. We'd love to see a couple more small business accounting solutions for the Mac, but it was nice to see these guys on the floor."
Because I've seen a lot of ?? posts about business software for the Mac, and I know there are a lot of small businesses that would love these solutions, I thought I would forward these just in case some of you Evangelists can't/didn't go to the MacWorld Expo this year, or don't read the Macintouch website.

I've been reading with amusement all the posting about Mac's that fix PC floppies and so on and realized that it has become so common around here that I took it for granted that Mac's can fix PC problems.
Cabela's produces great catalogs for the camping, hunting, and outdoor enthusiast, and I might ad that our catalogs are great. We produce them all with Mac's of course. But we receive countless floppies, M/Os, CD, Syquests, Zip's and so on from product vendors that have items in our catalogs. It is a weekly if not daily thing that someone from our MIS dept. or a Product Specialist walks a frustrated person into my office with a PC disk they cannot read on their PC computers or some strange file format that a small shop created with a software product our PC (we have a small army of MIS wintel guys) experts have never heard of or cannot open.
I pop the disk into my Mac, and without exception I can open it, recover it, translate it, or convert it to a usable format that the PC user needs or that I can pass along to production people on Mac's to use in advertisements ot catalog production. It has become so routine that now it is part of the MIS dept. policy to send people with bad disks, or strange formats to us to fix. (with the help of many a utility or program I learned about from the Evangelist postings). Everyone knows around here that if you have a problem disk or strange unreadable file just find someone with a Macintosh they can always fix it.
