I've updated the Photoshop 5 Performance page to include results from a dual Pentium II 450 running NT 4.0.
Adobe says Photoshop 5 supports symmetric multiprocessing under Windows NT, and the PC was running the MP kernel. The results show the Mac is still the king at Photoshop, as the PC total score trailed most of the Macs listed in the table. Although the PC was faster at most shorter duration filters, the more intensive ones were where it really lost ground to the Macs, resulting in a larger total time for the 21 filter test.
Macs listed include a new B&W G3/400, Apple G3/333, 9600/350 and several Macs with a G3/400MHz CPU card upgrade.

When I'm not WMAO in the office, I'm off at our local hill overlooking town waiting for the right wind/thermal conditions to soar with the local aviary. Part of knowing when (and when NOT) to fly, is keeping a close ear to micrometerological conditions. A good resource for that, anywhere in the US, is the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) weather radio broadcast. NOAA weather radio can be found at the following frequencies anywhere in the US if you have a shortwave/HAM band radio: 162.400, 162.475, 162.550 MHz
What does all this have to do with us MacAfficianados? (I told you all that to tell you this...) Recently, NOAA weather radio has gone to a partial artificial voice broadcast. Rather than recording a new weather statement or advisory every fifteen minutes, they use computers to check weather stations around the area which report local weather conditions at sites all around where you live. The data that's returned is then transcribed and broadcast using (you'll never believe this, I didn't when I first heard it) MACINTALK!
That's right. Just tune your handy HAM 2-meter shortwave to any of those frequencies and hear our old friendly familiar Macintalk voice describing weather conditions around your area, up to the minute weather conditions as reported by automated weather stations around your state.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Hi to all fellow Evangelistas from New Orleans. Having survived another version of "The Greatest Free Show on Earth" I thought I would write and let everyone know that my family and I masked on Fat Tuesday as the new multi-colored iMacs. More specifically, we went as dcMac, dgMac, lmMac, or jdMac in my case. I lifted the idea from a Foxtrot cartoon I had seen last Halloween where one of the characters went as an iMac. When asked what's so scary about iMacs he replies "I have no floppy drive!". Anyway, I digress.
I started Monday evening about 9:00 p.m. with a paper mockup of the headgear and proceeded to build the pieces out of foam core, translucent binders, tape, and a little glue. I can attest to the difficulty of building the 3D pieces because of their curvilinearity in all three planes (X, Y, Z). I finally completed what I considered acceptable renditions around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. Pausing only to shower, load the ice chest (VERY IMPORTANT) and head up to St. Charles Avenue, I arrived around 7:30 a.m. My wife and kids unfortunately didn't join me until around 10:00 a.m. leaving us only a short time to parade en masse up and down the avenue before the start of the "official" parades. But the interesting part was how many people INSTANTLY recognized us and, in a sure sign that you have a hit, wanted to photograph us. My oldest son kept his on till the end of the truck parades around 2:30 p.m. although my wife and I took breaks because of the lack of ventilation. I didn't render the ventilation patterns in the translucent material-DUH! Came home and went into "Sleep" mode around 6:30 p.m......

Of the 2689 computers, 43.63% (1103) were 3 years old or less. 30.18% (763) were more than 3 years old, up to 5 years old. 12.90% (326) were more than 5 years old, up to 7 years old. 7.59% (192) were more than 7 years old, up to 10 years old. 5.70% (144) were more than 10 years old.
62.14% (1671) were PowerPC Macs. 37.67% (1013) were 68k Macs.
472 did not specify OS version. Of the 2217 eligible responses, 2.12% (47) were running System 6.0x or earlier. 1.62% (36) were running System 7.0x. 5.68% (126) were running System 7.1x. 13.67% (303) were running System 7.5x. 10.24% (227) were running System 7.6x. 66.53% (1475) were running System 8.0x.
1 did not report RAM. Of the 2688 eligible responses, 4.87% (131) had 4 Mb RAM or less. 4.54% (122) had more than 4 Mb RAM, up to 8 Mb RAM. 7.78% (209) had more than 8 Mb RAM, up to 16 Mb RAM. 20.31% (546) had more than 16 Mb RAM, up to 32 Mb RAM. 30.65% (824) had more than 32 Mb RAM, up to 64 Mb RAM. 31.85% (856) had more than 64 Mb RAM.
