Hey guys,
As most of you know, I now have both a PowerMac (7500) and a PC (Dell PII, 266mhz). Many of you out there probably work with both types of systems and may even have both types of your own. This message area should be devoted to helping us all move information smoothly between the two.

Here's my first question:

The Mac comes with built-in ethernet, and I've recently bought an inexpensive PCI 10baseT ethernet card for the PC. I've created a crossover cable to hook the two together (following the pinouts on a website I can find for you guys if you need/want it).

However, the PC does not seem to recognize networking to be set up for some reason. I have no problems whatsoever connecting to the internet, but when trying to use the ethernet card, it just doesn't seem to recognize that even the networking software is running. For instance, when I open "network neighborhood", the only icon is "Entire Network" When I double click this, it gives me the error "Unable to browse the network. The network is not accessible. For more information, look in the Help Index at the topic "Network Troubleshooter". This item, of course, in complying with MicroSoft directives, is completely USELESS and doesn't give any useful information.

In virtual PC, I have been able to at least get the icon "Virtual PC" to show up in network neighborhood. Although the 2nd PC doesn't show up at all.

Argh. I've made sure the cables are connected and everything. Still, nothing seems to work.

What do I need to do here? Are there special clients I need to install? Is Windows Client for Microsoft Networks not the right thing?

My goal is to get one system to be able to connect to the internet and use services from both systems through a gateway.

Any suggestions or Ideas on where to start will be much appreciated.

Thanks
Jason
