<<<The Mac OS just got upgraded today (9/19/96) to version 7.5.5. After trying a while, I finally got through one of the Apple servers to get the update.
You can download it here on the Headgap in the Mac Files area under the mSystem folder.
The update is 3,180k long. System 7.5.5 is suppose to have many bug fixes, as well as some speed improvements.>>>

Thanks for uploading it here! I'm sure this will help a lot of people out... I got it last night from a european server (it was already morning there) and seemed to have beaten the rush.

This update seems nice! I've only had one crash so far, and I was running WAY too many applications (Netscape 3.0, Ircle 2.6alpha19, a few graphics programs, WordPerfect....and when I tried to connect with Fetch while downloading a couple of files using Netscape, it proved too much for the system...or maybe it was because I tried to print something out too....hmmm). I really think this is a much more stable system.

I've heard from reliable people that speed while using virtual memory has increased about 2-3 times over the old scheme (which is entirely believable) and that VM doesn't clash with some of the heavyweights like Photoshop anymore.

I still say the OS is the most stable around. My opinion is that Netscape and FreePPP are the cause of almost ALL if not all of my crashes. Maybe the LaserWriter 8.4 driver.... FreePPP isn't as innocent as it looks, guys....it's a wolf in sheep's clothing.
