Well I went ahead and installed 7.5.5 on the Headgap system. No apparent problems yet. I was going to use conflict catcher to kill the 52xx-64xx extension and it gave me a bus error. It rebooted okay and is running now. I will soon know if conflict catcher has a conflict with it next time I try to use it. For now I ll let it run.
I didn't run System Info to see how much faster the system is. I don't know what they did to optimize the systems but the results have been good on old or new macs whenever I have checked it.
