Your customer is correct. System 7.5.5 is a bug fix release and is not designed to run on the Motorola machines. System 7.6 (aka Harmony) is a system software upgrade release due in January and will support all current Mac machines including the Motorola box and other clones.
Apple has changed its strategy for releasing OS upgrades. Instead of waiting 6 months to a year or more to release a big upgrade to System 8 (aka Copeland), Apple has set a schedule for bi annual OS upgrades in January and July of each year, with bug fixes released as needed. 7.6 (aka Harmony) is an incremntal OS upgrade. If any bug fixes are made between then and Jul, they may be called System 7.6.1, etc.
I hope that answers your questions clearly - please forward my reply to your team.

Hello Motorola Guru! I am planning on closing a deal today on 8 or 9 Starmax
cpu's for a new customer of mine. The last remaining consideration he needs addressed is regarding Apple's new operating systems. He has been told Apple
System 7.5.5 won't run, but either 7.6 or 8.0 in January will (unfortunately
I was a little confused, because I'm not familiar with Apple's operating system info). Where does Copeland (the new Powermac O/S) fit into this picture? Can you please sort through these questions and confirm/deny these questions? As soon as I get him the answers, we'll close the deal and get the P.O. Thanx! dan
