The only problem with this is that by definition, the changes we'll get in Copland are foundation shaking and not amenable to small updates. So what's going to happen is that Apple will be putting a LOT of effort into taking things they've already got working and porting them backwards and making them work will all the older machines. Sooooo....this will no doubt keep them busy until late 1998 to mid 1999 before we actually get even a partially preemptively multitasking OS. This may not sound like a big deal to the average user, but it's a MAJOR reason large businesses are shying away from the Mac (it lacks a "modern" operating system), and why graphics professionals are slowly drifting towards Windows NT and away from the Mac.

It's sad.
