They say that 7.5.5 is for 68040 machines or better and that 7.5.3 is the last version for 68000-68030 macs. As they work towards 8.0 they will quit supporting 68040's and the last working version for the 040's will be 7.5.x??

I may not have got that exactly right but close to it. They would be foolish to pull the rug out of the installed base of mac users quickly but they also would be foolish not to make 8.0 and greater native. I have more than a few machines running 6.07 because of the architecture and will continue to use those machines until they die. I will continue to use my 040's both professionally and for home use with whatever OS they support for that and will eventually buy powerpc when the features that the new OS are so overwhelming that I will not be able to afford to stay with the older system.

Not a bad plan to me.
