Have any of you folks had any trouble reading CD-R's since updating to 8.6 from 8.5.1?

I had borrowed a friend's CD-R and burned a couple of cd's with backups of a lot of software, shareware, and data. Everything was working fine. Discs wrote perfectly and I used them several times under 8.5.1 after this.

Then I updated to 8.6 last monday and now the discs give me an error when I put them in "This disc is unreadable, would you like to Eject it or Initialize it?" Obviously I don't have the CD-R any more so I'm not able to initialize it (I haven't even tried for fear of locking up the machine or losing the data forever somehow) so I always eject it. He brought his G3 233 Powerbook with DVD player over (sweet machine) and it couldn't read the discs either. These things had just been working perfectly the weekend before I updated to 8.6.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
