I recommend my CD update be installed over the 8.6 installation. Keep a copy of course of the original but I think you will find all your CD problems are solved. Just use the main driver. It is called FixedAppleCD and it has a slightly hacked driver that makes it a bit more reasonable in excepting formats and mechanisms. I found the hack in a user magazine and it makes the non apple drives in some machines like the old Power Apple compatibles CD drives work properly. I replaced mine on my Power120 after installing 8.6 and all is well.
