Make sure you set the application to have enough ram. I think OS 8 causes applications to require just a bit more ram than they were in OS 7.x, so you need to take this into account. I usually set NS to use about 18 megs, and it really increased stability greatly. You probably want to use Virtual Memory as well. Error type 1 is, I believe, a memory-related error.
