Subject: Mac OSX Too Expensive for Consu
Date:Sat, May 27, 2000 02:44 PM

Well one thing I know I won't be doing is upgrading to Mac OS-X... just read an alarming article stating that OS-X will render a lot of current Mac software and hardware totally obsolete. Anyone who plans to upgrade to this totally un-Mac like operating system has to be ready to fork out big bucks to support such a drastic move.

I don't see what is wrong with keeping the current Mac only kernel or whatever they use in the current iterations of the Mac OS around. Most things apparently still work okay with Mac OS's 8 to 9... with a lot of OS 7 and OS 6 stuff able to work...

Anyway... here is the URL and a small snippet of the article that I read.

"Of course it is also an issue whose magnitude we won't really be able to
gauge until OS X is released to consumers, but it may prove a
substantial inhibiting factor making many Mac users reluctant to move up
to OS X."

-- I'm already reluctant.. heck I haven't even bothered to go to OS 8.6...

"As reader Martin A. Totusek noted: "The simple fact is that many of us
(Macintosh Users) simply can't just throw away large amounts of SCSI
equipment we own... it isn't financially practical...."

Gotta keep my old clone and cadre of 68K Macs up and running....

It's too expensive to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade... Computer industry as usual is trying to milk consumers out of more money.
