Well, I haven't had too many problems with Java crashing Netscape (recently, anyway). The main problem is it just doesn't work about 1/3 of the times I try to use it. IE is much better in this regard.
My big beef with IE is this: Whenever I close a window, it takes literally 20-30 seconds during which nothing happens. It pretty much locks up the machine for that period of time! My browser habits (developed over 5 years or so) include using the "open link in new window" a HUGE percentage of the time. This prevents me from having to hit back back back back to get back to the page I want (especially for those pages that automatically forward you somewhere else, making it very difficult to just go back). Anyway, I've heard of problems with IE 4.5 taking a while to close, but it closes lickety split on my 333Mhz iMac. Closing windows is like walking thru frozen molasses.
