Subject: Sharing IP addresses?

Bob/Anybody,
Is there a way to set up a group of macs on a small LAN (appletalk or ethernet) so that one of the machines can call an ISP with it's modem, and yet all of the systems on the LAN have access to the internet?
I have a friend with about 6 PC's (in the house) and they have one machine which calls with their x2 modem. This machine then apparently subdivides the IP assigned and gives each individual machine it's own address, so they can all use the net at the same time.

Surely this is possible on the mac!

Later,
Jason
