But how long will it take them to move up to 20% marketshare? Gil Amelio has already stated point blank that Apple is not likely to become profitable again until next year sometime, and that this whole affair has hurt Mac marketing and sales to the point that they don't expect to come close to the numbers of machines they sold in 1995 during 1996, and likely not the first part of 1997 either. Looks like there's going to be at least 1.5 years of LOSING marketshare (and how much can you lose when you're only at about 7% and slipping already and still stay alive?)

Well, it's primarily going to be a PR game for Apple in that regard. Packard Bell -- a company that sells more machines than Apple now -- has _severe_ financial problems, far outclassing Apple's. Just recently, NEC agreed to form a partnership with PB, because NEC needs cheapo PC clones, and PB needs money.

But of course, Packard Bell isn't an industry leader. They don't innovate. They just sell cheap junk machines, at cheap prices.

Which is why so many folks have jumped on Apple. Folks that make a living working on the Mac trust Apple to make a comeback, and for that reason they will. They've got amazing technologies... The only trick will be convincing businesses, and home buyers of that fact.
