Guys,
What do you think about the new "system release schedule" they've come up with at Cupertino?

Just when it looked like things were starting to come back together, they go and do this. There have been too many rumors by Mac publications about the scarcity of programmers working on the system software (most of which were hired away by Microsoft...gee, we may end up getting Copland from MS instead of Apple!) for this to be a pure coincidence.

I'm all for the more frequent release of new OS versions with a few very notable exceptions, though.
1. By taking the time to force functionality that was supposed to be in Copland to work with 7.5's outdated and overworked system, they are going to be further postponing and postponing the eventual release of "System 8"

2. Incremental updates are indeed great for compatibility issues, as Apple has stated. However, you can't go from a 12-year old system architecture based on M68k code to a microkernal-based system which is 95% native and supports NONE of the old methods of system extensibility in an "incremental" update.
