Installer VISE 5.5 is a major upgrade to MindVision's Internet-ready
Macintosh installer solution. This release features package
dependencies, on-screen archive reports, package build directives, Mac
OS 8.5 support, localization enhancements, and improved automation.

the entire text of P.J. Plauger's Standard C Reference, a hyperlinked

OpenScript 1.0.2 from Marco Bambini is an HTTP server plug-in,
compatible with W*API 1.1, that allows you to include AppleScript and
Frontier commands in your HTML pages. This update fixes a demo version
bug and adds support for nested folders and aliases.

MacCoach 2.0b3 from Neuron Data Systems is a microprocessor-based
Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) device that restarts a Macintosh computer
whenever it stalls or crashes. This new software-only release includes
built-in application monitoring, comprehensive logging of activities
and problems, and HTML-based reporting.

BugLink 1.0 from PandaWave is a new bug-tracking system for developers
of software for the Mac OS and Microsoft Windows. It consists of a
central bug database, a server application, and client software that
allows developers and testers to download bug reports. Users can work
offline, examining and modifying bugs in their local caches, then
upload changes to the central server in a single burst.

[5] QuickTime 3.0.1 Posted

QuickTime 3.0.1 is now posted the QuickTime web site, but there is no
need for 3.0 users to upgrade; the only changes occur in the
installer, which includes the new QuickTime software distribution
agreement for developers, and the QuickTime plug-in, which is less
aggressive about displaying the "Get QuickTime 3 Pro" ad.

[6] Interactive Media Tool News: VR Toolbox, Adrenaline Software

VR Toolbox is a new company that focuses on developing and marketing
software tools for QuickTime VR. Its initial line will include four
products: VR Pano Worx, VR Object Worx, VR Scene Worx, and The VR
Worx.

Adrenaline Charts Pro 1.0, the Publishing & New Media Edition, is a
versatile tool for rapidly creating 2D and 3D graphics (static or
dynamic). Used alone or with applications such as QuarkXpress,
PageMaker, Photoshop, and Illustrator, Adrenaline Charts Pro
integrates QuickTime, QuickDraw 3D, AppleScript, ColorSync, and
ObjectTransporter technologies so that that any element of an image
can be replaced with a 3D object.

[8] Department of Defense Uses WebObjects Health-Care Solution

WebObjects, Apple's premier web application development platform, has
been chosen by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to help bring the
U.S. military health-care system into the 21st century. The DoD is
using the WebObjects-based Clinical Encounter Application as a major
component of its new Composite Health Care System (CHCS II).

[9] Webmaster Tools: ClearWay Technologies, Glucose Development, Pine
Island Software, Maxum Development, SoftPress Systems, Tension
Software

ClearWay Technologies has announced the release of two free plug-ins
for WebSTAR-compatible web servers: ClearWay Simple Cache Manager 2.0
and FireSite SSI_PIXO Adapter 1.0. ClearWay Simple Cache Manager is a
WebSTAR plug-in that automatically manages RAM caches. It keeps RAM
caches in sync with the latest files on disk. FireSite SSI_PIXO
Adapter 1.0 is a plug-in that makes WebSTAR SSI 3.0 run faster with
FireSite through PIXO.

Injection 1.1 from Glucose Development is an upgrade to its popular
automatic META tagging tool. Version 1.1 includes improved stability
during batch jobs with high page counts, support for a broader range
of Macintosh computers, and the ability to batch search-and-replace
operations across entire web sites.

Beehive FTP Forms 2.0 from Pine Island Software handles repetitive
forms and file transfers over the Internet, a useful capability in the
printing and prepress industry. With this release, Pine Island has
resolved security problems with FTP by implementing a secure key
system that encrypts the FTP site, path, and access information; this
allows so multiple senders to send data to the same site without
security risks.

Rumpus 1.2 from Maxum Development is an FTP server for the Mac OS that
provides workstation-like levels of performance and reliability. The
new version further extends Rumpus's feature set with new options that
simplify FTP server management, strengthen security, and automate
administration.

Maxum Development has also announced WebDoubler, a new product that
helps systems administrators manage Internet access while accelerating
web surfing for an entire workgroup or classroom. At its core,
WebDoubler operates as a proxy server to provide a gateway between LAN
clients and the Internet.

Freeway 2.0 is SoftPress Systems' major upgrade to its award-winning
web design software, which helps users design web sites without
mastering HTML. The new version extends Freeway's popular DTP-style
user interface to give easy access to fourth-generation web

URL Extractor 1.0 from Tension Software extracts URLs from web pages,
saves them on disk in a usable format, then exports them to databases

[11] An iMate USB-to-ADB Adapter

This week Griffin Technology announced an iMate USB-to-ADB adapter,
which allows users to take advantage of ADB devices on iMac computers.
(Users of iMac systems will be limited to the in-box Apple mouse and
keyboard.) The iMate adapter opens an entire world of devices to iMac
users, including mouse devices, keyboards, trackballs, joysticks, and
trackpads.

Apple Developer Connection announces a special advertising discount to
our Select and Premier Program members in association with MacHome and
MacAddict magazines. From August 15, 1998 to November 15, 1998,
MacHome and MacAddict will provide Select program members with a
5-percent discount on a three-month advertising contract. Premier
members can take advantage of a 10-percent discount on a six-month

1,170 off the normal MacCentral rate of US$ 1,950 for a three-month

[14] "Buy This Product" Feature Added to Macintosh Products Guide

Apple Developer Connection announces the addition of a "Buy This
Product" feature to the Macintosh Products Guide. Effective July 24,
developers may list the URLs of sites that electronically distribute
their products, including online retail and catalog services, or the
developer's own web site. This enhancement to the Macintosh Products
Guide provides a more useful resource for end-users and a more
effective marketing tool for developers. To take advantage of this
great new feature, go to the Macintosh Products Guide web site, click
on the Developer Product Submission link at the bottom of the page,
and then click on the Update Product link. Best of all, there is no
charge for this feature, and you can enter up to twelve URLs.

[15] Apple Education Orders Increase

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a survey of 5,000 public
schools has found that 38 percent of new computers ordered for the
coming year are Macintosh computers; this represents a 32 percent
increase from last year.

Peter Tamte -- formerly executive director of GT Interactive's MacSoft
unit, the number-one publisher of Macintosh consumer software -- is
joining Apple as senior director of Consumer Marketing.

[17] Wells Fargo Renews Support for Macintosh Customers

Wells Fargo has confirmed that it will continue to support its online
banking and bill payment service through Intuit's Quicken for
Macintosh. Although Wells Fargo had previously said that it would
discontinue the service for Macintosh customers (encouraging them
instead to do their Internet banking through the company's web site),
last week Wells Fargo reversed that decision.

Troi Automatisering announced the availability of three new versions
of FileMaker plug-ins: Troi Dialog Plug-in 1.2, Troi Coding Plug-in

Pro 4.0 on both the Mac OS and Windows.
