SpiderJose: Hi Bob! SpiderJose: Just got your email this morning...haven't had a chance to read it yet... Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Hello Jose, don't know why I do that. I am having a bit of trouble getting TFNet to work but am fairly sure it is on my end. SpiderJose: Rusty and Chris should be along soon. SpiderJose: What's happening? Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Great, Brian is going to join us here from our MIS group. He is on his own camera via ISDN SpiderJose: Cool! SpiderJose: I can take a look at your mail server config file for you and see if there's something incorrect there Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: I think my mail prefs or something may be messed up. My newsgroups have stopped sucking. It goes through the motions. Is it safe to pull a few day old backup and try it. Brian (Wang's): Hey SpiderChris: hi brian SpiderJose: Is NNTP sucker is no longer importing newgroups or are you not getting TFNet topics? Brian (Wang's): Its a rack to connect up hundreds of terminals. Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Both have quit. I really never got messages from TFNET and for some reason NNTP Sucker goes thru the motions of reading my groups file but it doesn't do anything SpiderChris: for nntp sucker, we need to find out if it's creatign import files or not... SpiderJose: Bob, send me your 'Mail Server Config' file so I can take a look at it. rusty: Hey Bob! Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: I will, thanks very much. Do you need a log as well?? Hey Rusty! Bob Wright: Greetings to everyone! :) SpiderChris: hi bob wright SpiderJose: Yes, send me your latest mail server log file... Bob Wright: Hello Chris! SpiderJose: Hi Bob W! SpiderJose: Hi Dragon! Welcome to the Spider Island Software Reflector. Bob Wright: Chris: does 5.1 fix a problem where user's names will disappear from the "In:" line of a chat room? Bob Wright: Greetings JOse! Dragon: Hi Spider, how do you see me ? SpiderChris: Bob, i wasn't aware of that problem, the chatrooms have been rewritten almost entirely in 5.2, so perhaps that has been addressed.... Brian (Wang's): Has anyone tried the new Open transport? SpiderJose: Dragon: You're vid's coming in fine. Bob Wright: Chris: well, last night while connecting from home, I notice after about five users entered the room, earlier user's names werre disappearing... SpiderChris: Bob, it only shows the last five names.... rusty: We're using OT 1.1.1 on all PCU power macs... Bob Wright: Chris: ahh...that explains it :) There was more room on the line for more users so I thought something was worng. I had never noticed that before Dragon: Ok Spider,I see you only on the top but great SpiderChris: I've actually changed that so it will so up to 10 names.. Bob Wright: Chris: ok, I admit it: I have neverhad more than five users in a chat room at one time before ;) Dragon: Well,All MACS SpiderChris: hehe Bob Wright: Chris: which version? 5.1.2? SpiderChris: Bob, no 5.2alpha.... beta online next week Bob Wright: Chris: ok...and what the the windows client? SpiderJose: Dragon, are you a TeleFinder sysop? Brian (Wang's): I've been having a problem with the PC's and it taking for ever to download a file. I heard that new the transport has fixed some delay problems. Or is my problem the PC's? rusty: Did you try the Win 3.0b7 version Brian? rusty: ( you mean over tcp-ip, right?) Dragon: No, I'm a telefinder user;Italy Bob Wright: Chris: one more "problem" I discovered today: in the UM, if you change a user from "Time Limit is: Daily" to say "No Limit", if the daily had a limit of 75 min, then even though youhav eno limit, it still shows up as 75min SpiderChris: Bob, where does it show up that way? in the main user list window or somewhere else? Dragon: And now my picture? Bob Wright: Chris: in other words, the main um screen will show the user with a limit of 75 min, even though you have it set to no limit...youhave to go and type in 0 min to get no limit Brian (Wang's): No? Also we have some old network cables and I get a lot of retrys. SpiderChris: dragon, you video is coming in fine here SpiderJose: Your picture quality is very good. Bob Wright: Dragon: your video looks good here in Virgina, USA rusty: That version is the fastest for receiving by TCP-IP SpiderChris: Bob, okay gotcha.... there may be some other inconsistancies in that main window that i intend to address for the 5.2 User Manager Bob Wright: Chris: ok...great! Brian (Wang's): What did you fix in b7? Dragon: I'm happy of my trasmission thank my LC 630 and Supra LC 144 Bob Wright: Chris: I guess my main question is: if you have a user set to no limit and the main screen says there is...which is valid? rusty: There is a read me included withthe file that has all the details. Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: He never reads the docs he's MIS SpiderChris: Bob, yea... the the "no limit" field overrides the time limit field. The number of minutes is only "used" when you set a dialy, or absolute time limit... but of course, for display purposes, it shouldn't show a time limit if you select no limit... rusty: This afternoon all the BBS files will be available on our Web Site too > Brian (Wang's): Read the manual! yes I've heard that one before. SpiderJose: LOL rusty: www.spiderisland.com/bbs.spml Bob Wright: Chris: gotcha...I am glad to hear that because I did not want to have to go in and manual change about 300 users' settings to 0 min ;-() rusty: You can access Sysop Files and the TeleFinder BBS areas from there using your regular Spider Island BBS name and password. Bob Wright: Jose: how is tango coming? Dragon: Bye,my wife i calling (grrrr) SpiderJose: Bye Dragon Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Nice to see you Dragon Brian (Wang's): I've been playing with the filemaker web interface and I have found that lasso is one to look at. Has anyone else looked into Lasso? Bob Wright: Rusty: I was one of the users in "club beta" so today is the first day I was able to check out the sys op area...VERY NICE! :) SpiderJose: We should be up by Next Tues...I'm also going test lasso alongside tango to see which is better Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Very happy to here that. Lasso has a light version that I can afford Brian (Wang's): Lasso uses html files and little to no changes in the database and tango has this interface that you have to work through. Tango does have better examples though. Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Did I miss anything?? Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: WHat happened?? Bob Wright: Bob N: yeah, something about a party at Rusty's -- his treat -- but no big deal ;) rusty: What kind of DB access are you setting up? SpiderJose: Bob W: You should really check out then for their interface... rusty: We'll post the complete log of the session this afternoon. Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: We need to set up product for Wang's and for a future enterprise (selling) Bob Wright: Rusty: I am setting up a database which contains our entire card catalog; every school's card catalog will be in the database and will be searched via www SpiderJose: The editor links to a DB file and you select the fields you want displayed and how you want them searched. Bob Wright: Jose: you recommend tango's interface? Brian (Wang's): ? SpiderJose: It's an improvement over ROFM =) rusty: :) Brian (Wang's): ROFM has a lot of features? Bob Wright: Brian: that's a nice little patch system behind ya :) Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: THats just so he can connect to the internet rusty: ROFM is an AppleScript type solution. Brian (Wang's): I like html so lasso seems a better choice but Tango has a online catalog system that sounds good. rusty: I don't recommend it. SpiderJose: It's **slooooooow** rusty: I do recommend Tango Bob Wright: its slow and painfully "techie" rusty: and once Jose is done testing Lasso, we may be able to recommend it as well. SpiderJose: You can edit the HTML code that Tango makes if you wanted to change things around Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: One of the Tango reps was supposed to send an email out for a CD evalution copy and we nevr heard back, we ought to call again I guess. Brian (Wang's): If you think the cables are neat look at this. rusty: Anybody have a Digital Camera to recommend? Bob Wright: Brian: so many toys...so little time ;) Brian (Wang's): Low end or high end? Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: I have been looking, My wife is using the DC50 Kodak for real estate shots. Works good. rusty: Kodaks DC20 for 299 seems pretty good, except that it does not have any focus. rusty: the 50 has a 3x zoom? Brian (Wang's): Maybe we can have show and tell next week? Bob Wright: Rusty: I like my connectix color quickcam...particularly when using it with MacWebCam SpiderChris: i want one! rusty: I'd like something portable. Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: THe Kodaks are easy to use but you have to convert the files to use them after pulling them off. That is a little kludgy Brian (Wang's): Am still waiting for connectix to work on the newton software. rusty: what about the Olympus cams? Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: The DC50 has 38 to 114mm zoom and the built in flash. It shoots no brainer. SpiderJose: FYI: ROFM --- http://rowen.astro.washington.edu/ Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: I have looked at the specs on the Fuji with the digital backs. For catalog work they are close. I am hoping to see new at CES rusty: Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Leaf makes a studio model that would force us to change lighting but the quality is good enough for catalog at less than 10k, got to be better coming though SpiderJose: FYI: Lasso --- http://www.blueworld.com/ Brian (Wang's): Some of them have a long scan time Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: They have a light version that you can download Bob W. if you want to mess with it. SpiderJose: FYI: Tango --- http://www.everyware.com/ Bob Wright: Bob N: cool...I will have to check that out. I looked around a few weeks ago when Jose told me about it, but I did not see a demo version Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Tango's demo has a time limitation but works good and shows you how it functions Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Now if I could just really get good with Filemaker Bob Wright: My problem is getting the school system to put out money for it...that's why I am uisng ROFM right now :-/ Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Try the lasso light. SpiderJose: You might try asking them if they have educational pricing. Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: What neat Beta warez do we get tonite?? Bob Wright: I sure will....do you know its price off hand? Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Lasso Light is free Brian (Wang's): Lasso is $299 and tango is $350 Bob Wright: GREAT!! You made my day! :) Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: It made mine too. Will be using it some on my personal bbs. Bob Wright: unfortunately I only have an hour left at work...I doubt I could get it running by then...and I dont think anyone works over on a friday...especially when its payday ;-O SpiderChris: hehe Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: You could hang off the clock SpiderChris: change friday to Marathon day... people will stay late... Bob Wright: hahaha...I am not hourly :/ rusty: We should have a release of TF Server 5.2b3 -- Brian (Wang's): If anyone needs help with filemaker I've been using it for two years and I have done some big databases. 2.1 and 3.0 rusty: (using BBEdit ) you'll be able to set up Realms (Access levels ) rusty: It also supports the new SPML commands that let you put your BBS files on line. Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Hot Dog, I was hoping! rusty: You may need to reconfig your access groups tho... Bob Wright: Brian: here is a q for ya about fmpro: how much ram will a 3500 record database with about 20 fields require? rusty: The "files" folders have to be in the webs "home" folder. Bob Wright: Rusty: coolio!! Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: That can be aliases then right? rusty: This version also changes the way that TF handles special file processing. Brian (Wang's): a couple of meg max. Size depends on how much is indexed and how long you run the database before compressing. Bob Wright: Rusty: or just put an alias to the "files" folder :) rusty: no aliases for web folders! Bob Wright: Brian: how long? Brian (Wang's): FIlemake work well with databases under 10,000 records. Bob Wright: Rusty: :-( rusty: It would add a _lot_ of overhead to the command parsing.. Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: I got it. I can just move my Web Folder to include my files? Brian (Wang's): 1meg to 2meg in file size. rusty: on the handling Bob Wright: Brian: ahh... rusty: there is a new config file that tells TF what to do with each file type SpiderJose: Hi Ken! Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Hopefully with screen dumps Brian (Wang's): I had a zip code database with over 40,000 records that was 7meg or so. rusty: instead of using Internet Config and the 'magic mime' types Bob Wright: how much html colding is needed to put the files on-line? rusty: none Ken S: good evening Bob Wright: 8-) Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Hey Ken! Bob Wright: and when is this version coming? rusty: There is a template file called "dir.spml" that is a sib for "homepage" rusty: when you ask for "www/sysop files/ rusty: TF processs dirp.spml for that path rusty: dir.spml has one interesting line of code.... rusty: Brian (Wang's): DId that from memory? rusty: This tells TF how to format the disppaly of each file. Bob Wright: Brian: hahaha Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: Great! rusty: the simplest form would be.. rusty: rusty: this would just give you the "click on" name for each file and foler. Ken S: you should see where he hides hif floppy rusty: since its an smpl command you can put it in other docs as well Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: This really is terrific. I get a tremendous amount of requests for old software of non Mac/Windows users and many would prefer from the web rather than telnet. rusty: like this to display the files in the "files" folder Ken S: Rusty, I need a reduced feature tf server for mail only and I need it ASAP, your thoughts? Bob Nunn ¥ Memphis: I thought I was happy when I figured out hqx files would download off of a web page. rusty: in that usage, its very similar to the "include" command, except your now inlcuding a directory. rusty: Back to Handlers. rusty: There is a real important hander now its "BINHEX" Bob Wright: Rusty: well, one step further....what about displaying the newsgroups? I mean they are files of type text rusty: you need to tell TF which file types to deliver in BINHEX format ( like sit, sea, and cpt )
