Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Hey Jim, downloaded the latest and hung the docs off of my site. http://www.headgap.com/LollipopDocs.html Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Will be registering this weekend after I get some time to play with it and get it installed. JimSmith-CMUG: Good, What do you think of the Docs. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Well done. I did optimized the screens with JPEGView. They reduce to 256 color and make the file sizes smaller. Easy to read and understand. Until I set the new version up though I won't know if they are really great though. JimSmith-CMUG: I need to do that, make it smaller. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: If you just resave them with no icons and previews using JPEGview you still get all the size and no appreciable degradation. The files load faster though. Worth the few minutes it took to convert them. JimSmith-CMUG: What program are you using? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Of course the size isnt a problem when loading locally which most people will do. I use JPEGView v3.3. It is in the graphic utils area of AMUG or probably even on Spider Island. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I just drag and drop all of the images and once and then save them out with the reduced color set and no icon previews. JimSmith-CMUG: Thank's. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: You betcha. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Thank you for modernizing a part of telefinder. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I think the fellas finally got the beta fairly stable now. I have run all week with no crashes. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I have to choke down lunch during the conferences since it is 12:00 here Hate to always eat in front of everyone but glad the company tolerates my little hobby. JimSmith-CMUG: Yes and my system, using applescript, has been up for over a week. Question is should I stop it to put new stuf in.;) Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Well I usually do but don't count that as a crash. I will most likely put in the mail server tonite since they have added a spam filter. Really pleased about that. JimSmith-CMUG: It's ok with me, just done, it 1pm here. Brian (Wang's): Whereis everyone? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: We are all here. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: WHo else did you expect?? Brian (Wang's): All this networking just to get into the same building. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Jim- Brian is helping me set up an online database that will run on my web server using lasso and filemaker pro. Looking forward to getting it running this weekend. JimSmith-CMUG: What kind of stuff are you puting on FM-web.\? Brian (Wang's): House listings. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: My wife does a real estate site. It has gotten overwheliming to maintain with coding by hand. She has 175 listings. riveroaks.com if you want to see the before. Brian (Wang's): Here at work we have a phone book and a trouble log. JimSmith-CMUG: I think that's great. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I eventually want to add a user log program so I can keep better track of that informaton. JimSmith-CMUG: When I work.. we had to use email kind of stuff for call list. Brian (Wang's): The next version of FMpro will have most of this build in. It will automaticly make html pages for you from the databases layout screens. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I think a lot of people still do. I know that the database served thing is really kinda new for most companies unless they are into the hi tech industries. JimSmith-CMUG: When at COMDEX last week, ask Claris people about FM and web, did not get much response, must be cause this was a PC show. Brian (Wang's): Where's Chris and Rusty and Jose? Brian (Wang's): Did you talk to Jay? Brian (Wang's): The Claris guys don't like to tell secerts. Brian (Wang's): I went lasy week and I was suprised that Apple wasn't there and that Claris was in Microsofts area. JimSmith-CMUG: No, they did not say to much. They did have an emate, looks good. Brian (Wang's): Have you seen a Newton 2000 JimSmith-CMUG: It was my 1st (and last). Everone said it was cut back. Brian (Wang's): What did you see at Comdex that you enjoyed? JimSmith-CMUG: No. Brian (Wang's): The Newton 2000 really has a lot of big computer features and it is real fast. A word search across documents is instant. JimSmith-CMUG: NOT MUCH. All PC type stuff. I went in connection with APCUG. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I heard that the Newton wasn't going to have an Apple Logo anymore. They haven't come up with a new one but one guy said now that they had split out he thought it would be a boat anchor?? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Jose! Brian (Wang's): Comdex is Comdex/Windows World and I think that Bill has taken over. To bad. JimSmith-CMUG: Hi Jose. Spider Jose: Godd Morning/Afternoon Guys! Brian (Wang's): Hey Jose. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: We thought TF was giving a conference and decided not to come. Brian (Wang's): Newton is being spun off but I heard that Apple will hold on to the Emate 300. Should be a good thing if you ask me. Spider Jose: =)...I setup the ref but had to take a phone call... Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Been having fun anyway though. Talked about Jim's excellent docs with the new Lollipop. Spider Jose: Marisol and I are the only ones here today, Rusty and Chris are out of town... Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Set up the answer machine and go home. Spider Jose: Cool, I haven't had chance to play with Lollipop yet but I've rave reveiws from people who haved used it. Brian (Wang's): Its good to see you guys take vactions. Spider Jose: Bob: LOL, I wish! Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I am very pleased about the spam filter on the new mail server. I guess that is all we will see this weekend or is there somelthing else scheduled? Spider Jose: We all have to take a break sometime =) Brian (Wang's): What is this about anti-spam features in the mail server? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Just a text .config file. Put in the urls and out no more mail from sex4u.com Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Chris included a file with the worst and listed an url that updates the list regularly. Spider Jose: Bob, you're supposed to let me answer that one! ;) Brian (Wang's): Cool. I need to use this at work. I have gotten three or four different junk mails from different sources. Spider Jose: Yep...that's the essential idea. Brian (Wang's): Cool! Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Sorry but I am excited. It really does tie up the resources of all TF sysops that allow net mail for their users. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: This will really help. Spider Jose: I get loads of mail on daily basis and about half of it's spam... JimSmith-CMUG: I notice that Mindspring (my TF's ISP) had a TeleFinder BBS newsgroup. When I looked at it only one message. Some kind of crap about making $$$$. That filter should take care of not loading it. Spider Jose: Yep, We've been talking about this feature for a while... Spider Jose: Our ISP doesn't even carry the TF NG, =P Brian (Wang's): Lasso has a new beta of Lasso 2.0 Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Mine doesn't other. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: either Brian (Wang's): The lasso 2.0 has both plug-in and acgi. Spider Jose: Can FM run on a remote machine yet? Brian (Wang's): I don't think so but I haven't read all the docs on 2.0. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Will the new FM allow that you think? Spider Jose: That;s the only thing thats missing from Lasso... Brian (Wang's): The final version of lasso and the new version of FMpro will have a server version that will have its own web server. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: It would be nice to run a dedicated server for the filemaker. YOu do have to leave it up top to keep its speed up. JimSmith-CMUG: Jose: are there TF sites with there Hardware located at thier ISP? Spider Jose: Yes, I've heard of a couple people doing this Brian (Wang's): I did hear hints that odbc in and out may be supported in the next version of FMpro and that would allow the database to be on another machine. Spider Jose: I can't remember the names tho'...are planning on moving your machine to your ISP? Spider Jose: Brian: Cool! JimSmith-CMUG: I only have a dial up not. Brian (Wang's): Hey Bob what about the three modem router? WebRamp? JimSmith-CMUG: now Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Still waiting to hear from Paul (ISP). If he can make it work I will buy it. Spider Jose: Having your machine on your ISP LAN seems like it works for the people I've talked to... Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: You know with Timbuktu you could do 98% of your maintenance work etc. It probably would get you a good rate for your connect out since he would just have to route it. Spider Jose: ...they use Timbuktu to get to the server whenever they need to. Spider Jose: Hi Bob! Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: We use Timbuktu up here to keep me from walking up the stairs. Bob Wright: we use timbuktu here to keep our tv station bulletin board running Bob Wright: greetings to all! Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Hey Bob Spider Jose: hehe... JimSmith-CMUG: What can't Timbuktu do? Bob Wright: ok, here is an easy q: can I open up the user database in a spreadsheet and increaase all of my users' time with one stroke? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I was telling Jim earlier the new versions of TF are bulletproof. Move on up i fyou havent yet Bob. Bob Wright: Bob N: thanks...I hope to upgrade today....I have not upgraded in the last two weeks :/ JimSmith-CMUG: same here. move up. Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: You ll want the new mail server with the spam filter if you havent seen it yet. Bob Wright: what about my q about the user database? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Never tried it and don't know. Spider Jose: Bob W: No, you'd want to have Suzie do that for you Bob Wright: Ahh....Suzie :) uhh...does she do anything els for me ;-) Bob Wright: sorry, aand payday ;) Spider Jose: brb... Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Did you ever get your tape drive to work on your dual bus machine Bob? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I finally gave up and bought another 3.2 gig internal and just have retrospect back up to a file. Bob Wright: Bob: nope....I need to get that going...maybe its time for 1-800-sos-appl? ;) Bob Wright: well, I want to get this wokig because paid for it....so I am gongto all apple Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I am quite sure that the SONY mech is at fault. The dual buss machines are tickier. Bob Wright: my typing is not that bad, but with this video the keybaord is behind me :/ Bob Wright: Did you try calling apple? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Nope, I have enough frustration in my life. That little trick that retrospect told me about (turning off SCSI mgr 4.3 works but then it takes a lifetime to back up. Brian (Wang's): TF server has multiserver support, how does it handle multiple IP address? Spider Jose: Are you referring to multi-ips for one machine? Brian (Wang's): Yes! Bob Wright: Bob: well, apple can get it workng for me or give me a discount Bob Wright: Jose: what version of Suzi increases time for users? Spider Jose: Well, TF can't really handle multi-ips for one machine at the moment... Brian (Wang's): Needs a new OT? Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Let me know if you find a solution. I would like to use that tape drive again its cheaper storage. I can find better things for the 3.2 gig Spider Jose: yep Brian (Wang's): Sytem 8? Bob Wright: Bob: ok...will do! Spider Jose: probably not... Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Open Transport 1.5 ;-( Bob Wright: today is the last day of work until August 25 :-P Spider Jose: ...we already have System 8, and I don't see any support for multiple IPs JimSmith-CMUG: I use a APS (SONY SDT-5000) on a PPC8500 and Retrospect with no problem. Bob Wright: Jim: was the APS shipped with the 8500? Spider Jose: Bob W: I'm turning green w/ envy Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Unfortunately Bob and I have an older mechanism. JimSmith-CMUG: No had it before. Bob Wright: Did I mention I get paid a l summer, too? ;-P Bob Wright: a l = all Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Needing any help up their Bob? Bob Wright: I love tax payers' money ;) Spider Jose: Bob W: you really like to rub it in, don't you? ;) Bob Wright: its a hard life ;) Spider Jose: I think it's time to switch careers Bob Wright: Jose: so what version of suzi supports increasing time online? Brian (Wang's): I hear that Java programers are getting 90k a year. Bob Wright: Technology is BOOMING these days in K12...lots of new jobs being created Spider Jose: The latest version should be able to modify time online Bob Wright: Hmm...do you know thelast version...I have 1.7 Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Perhaps I'll make up a few Java Programming Degree certificates and buy a book this weekend and study up on it. Bob Wright: haha Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Having all this color technology and equipment at your fingertips ought to be good for something. Brian (Wang's): Tell people you have 10 years of Java experience! Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: I ve been drinking Java longer than that. Does that count? Spider Jose: Send me one of those certificates too =) Brian (Wang's): Java was called Oak when Sun first started. Spider Jose: Bob W: The latest is v1.7 although I think we might have a newer beta of that somewhere Bob Wright: The highest version of Suzi I see on TF BBS is 1.7....I dont see how 1.7 increases time Spider Jose: Hmmm...I might be mistaken on that one...let me get back to you Bob Wright: can ya get me the beta? I have +900 users who need their time increased Bob Wright: heh Spider Jose: Well, I think it's time to wrap up...any last q's? Brian (Wang's): I'll see you guys next week. Bye! Spider Jose: I'll see if I can Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Nothing else new tonite then Jose?? Spider Jose: Cya Brian! Bob Wright: can ytou email the info about suzi, jose? JimSmith-CMUG: CUall Spider Jose: Nope, the latest TF looks like it might be GM unless we find anything else... Bob Nunn ¥ Headgap: Bye everyone! See you next week. Spider Jose: Bob W: Yes. Bob Wright: see ya Bob N Spider Jose: Cya Bob, have a good weekend!
