C-64 Verses the 64c I have often been asked what is the difference between a 64 and a 64C. In afew words, practically nothing. Mos t of the difference between the two models is cosmetic. The 64C has a fancy case...more in style with the computer look of today. They are so similar internally that in the early production of the 64C that a 64 mothe r board was installed in most of the 64C's. The 64 board (revision B) is a d irect replacement for the 64C board. It's the one with the full heat sink, probably one of the most reliable 64 revisions. The major change between the two is in the RAM (random access memory) chips. The 64 used 8 of the 41 64 series chips to create 64K bits X 8 for a total of 64K bytes RAM. The 64 C uses two of the 256K RAM chips for the same function. Six less componen ts uses less power and produces less heat, which should make the computer last longer. This is the major difference between the two. For any user of Commodore 64's, the 64C is a direct replacement for the now defunct 64. With a base of over 10 million units sold, it doesn' t sound too defunct now does it? Written by Bill DeWitt Sysop of Telepages
